Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream SPF 15

If you’re looking for a super comfortable, lightweight moisturizer with SPF protection this Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream SPF 15 might just be perfect for you.

The Pro-X Olay SPF 30 moisturizer that I recently reviewed is still my current fave for daytime facial moisturizers with SPF, but I was intrigued with the concept of a gel-cream formula with SPF that Neutrogena had to offer.  SPF is one of those things that’s hard to get right in a facial moisturizer – most leave a heavy white cast and/or makes you look greasy – you know, that typical ‘sun-screeny’ feeling. The Olay one doesn’t do that and neither does this Neutrogena one – whew!

Now, if any of you have been following me for a while now, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of hyaluronic acid – this ingredient is amazing at keeping my skin hydrated, plump and moisturized.  So the idea of having a really lightweight moisturizer with really good hydration AND SPF sounded like a good deal to me!

If you’ve got oily/combo skin, you will love this moisturizer – I used this on hot, humid days and it was perfect to keep my face from feeling like I have too much on.  If you’ve got dry/normal skin, I think you’ll still enjoy the formula, but it might not be enough hydration for you if you’re really dry (especially come the winter months).

It doesn’t really have a scent to it, maybe a light fresh-like scent but nothing too strong.   I sinks in quickly into the skin and instantly provides hydration and leaves my skin plump and happy.

There are other moisturizers and an eye cream in this Neutrogena range and I wouldn’t be surprised if those product eventually make their way on to my vanity!

Clinique City Block Sheer Oil-Free Face Protector SPF 25

In the market for a new daytime face moisturizer, I had my sights set on the Clinique City Block SPF 25 lotion for a while.  I’ve read very good reviews on this day lotion and with Clinique ‘Bonus Time’ happening as I passed by the Clinique counter one day, it was the perfect time to buy!

Firstly, I’m a BIG stickler for using face moisturizers with SPF. Must Must Must!  Having a few sun spots popping up on my face over the last few years, I’ve made it a point to always wear a sunscreen on my face all year round — do my best to prevent any further sun damage as I get older.

I was always hesitant to use a face moisturizer with anything greater than an SPF 15 — I’ve had bad experiences in the past with higher SPF products either “pilling” on me or just feeling too heavy, looking too shiny, feeling too greasy. Blech.  But in reading a few good reviews on the Clinique, I thought I’d give this one a try.

So far, really good!  Not only does this moisturizer have a good amount of SPF, it’s formulated with antioxidants.

This lotion is tinted slightly (to offset the whitecast the SPF can leave) and the colour disappears to nothing on my face.  I do find the formula a bit thick for my liking so what I actaully do is mix a half pea-size amount of my Body Shop Vitamin E Serum with about a pea size amount of the Clinique lotion and I have a consistency that is a bit more “lotion-y” and easier to spread and absorb into my skin.  I don’t find this overly shiny or greasy looking (with some SPF facial lotions this can be a problem) which is awesome.

Trying to blend this onto my face alone I actually find quite difficult. It does have a thicker consitency (like you would expect a sunscreen product would have). So “diluting” it with my vitamin E serum really helps me apply this evenly and easily.

As with all Clinique products this is fragrance-free.

I purchased this for $26 Cdn.

I give the Clinique City Block Sheer Oil-free face protector: a STANDING OVATION

Skincare Review: Vitamin C from The Body Shop

Hello Pretties!

Today I want to share my thoughts with you on the Vitamin C product line from The Body Shop. If you’ve been following me since I’ve started this blog, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of The Body Shop products — I’ve done quite a few reviews on various products already. Just a reminder, I’m not incentivized by the company for any of my reviews — I just genuinely like using their products!

So, the Vitamin C line. I’ve been using three of the products from the line quite diligently for the last 3 weeks and I think I’ve got a good handle on how they perform on my skin so far. We all know that Vitamin C for the skin is one of the best ingredients you can use to combat dullness and bring back radiance to your face. There are many skincare products out there, both high end and drugstore, that include Vitamin C in them, but what compelled me to The Body Shop Vitamin C line was that they had a lot of different products that presumably work in synergy with each other. The three products I picked up were the Daily Moisturizer SPF 30, Facial Cleansing Polish, and Skin Boost.

Vitamin C Skin Boost

The Vitamin C Skin Boost is probably the product I love the most out of the three. It’s meant to be used after you’ve moisturized your face to add a smooth radiance to the skin. It has a very silky, almost velvety feel to it and I would have to say it actually leaves my skin looking silky and velvety in a way. The texture of this is very light and is very similar to a face primer — a silicone feel (that’s where the silky and velvety come from). I use about at pea size amount and smooth this over my face after moisturizing and before I apply my BB cream or foundation. It has a subtle citrus scent. It doesn’t feel like it’s suffocating my skin, which is a good thing. It somewhat mattifies my skin, but doesn’t leave it looking flat, if you get me. And applying my BB cream or foundation over this makes application very smooth and even. As far as making my skin look radiant, I would say yes but not in any magical or obvious sort of way.

Definitely something I would repurchase primarily as a primer underneath a face base and the fact that I’m adding Vitamin C to my skin with this product is a bonus.

I give the Vitamin C Skin Boost: a HIGH FIVE

Vitamin C Facial Cleansing Polish

Vitamin C Facial Cleansing Polish

Vitamin C Facial Cleansing Polish

Honestly, I’m not a big fan of this facial cleanser. I really wanted to like it and I used it every day for the last 3 weeks, but I just didn’t get on with it. And the more and more I used it, the more and more I kind of disliked it. What I do like about it is that it’s got tiny microbeads that give my skin a good gentle scrub so that it feels like it’s actually working. I like the citrus, fresh smell — great wake-me-up scent first thing in the morning. I like the squeeze tube packaging, not messy in the shower. What really turns me off from this product is that as much as I rinsed, I just didn’t feel like I was getting it all of my face. It just took a lot longer than other cleansers I’ve tried. And, from what I’ve learned, you don’t really have to spend that much money on a cleanser because it only stays on your face for about a minute (or less) and then just gets rinsed away — not enough time for any of the active ingredients to actually work its magic on your skin.

I won’t repurchase this cleanser — for me, it’s just not cutting it. I’ve put this away and will keep as a back-up or travel cleanser but I won’t be using this anymore. I’ve actually replaced it with a very basic Neutrogena cleanser just yesterday and already I’m finding that I like that one better!

I give the Vitamin C Facial Cleansing Polish: a THUMBS DOWN

Vitamin C Daily Moisturizer SPF 30

Vitamin C Daily Moisturizer SPF 30

Vitamin C Daily Moisturizer SPF 30

I had a good feeling about this moisturizer — enough that I went out on a limb, took a chance and bought two of these without even trying it out. Glad I did, because I really do like this moisturizer! First off, Vitamin C to promote radiance and fight dullness – check. An SPF 30 (which is quite high) that doesn’t leave my skin looking greasy, shiny or grey (with some moisturizers, the SPF can leave sort of a silvery-grey cast to the skin) – check. A subtle, refreshing, citrus scent – yum. This moisturizer blends in really easily and absorbs nicely into my skin. I use about a dime size amount and that’s more than enough to cover my entire face. I would say, yes, it does provide a radiant glow to my skin — I’ve notice a BIT of a change, but nothing too obvious. Probably with longer use, over time I will only continue to see my skin looking less dull.

I give the Vitamin C Daily Moisturizer SPF 30: a HIGH FIVE

The prices of these products don’t come cheap — I lucked out and purchased them when The Body Shop was having a Buy Three, Get Three Free deal. The Skin Boost was $26; the Facial Polish was $16; and the Daily Moisturizer was $20. Honestly, as much as I like using the Skin Boost and Moisturizer, I would never pay full price for those products (without some kind of deal to go with them!).

Have you ever tried any of the Vitamin C products?
