Tarte Magical Moments Deluxe Best Sellers Essentials Set

A few months overdue, but for Christmas, my bestie Jenn surprised me with the Tarte Magical Moments Deluxe Best Sellers Set.  I was so excited to receive this because it included three samplers of products that I knew I would use!

The blush is in the colour Unstoppable; the lipstick is in the shade Living; and the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara is in black.

I’ve hummed and hawed about indulging myself in a full-size Tarte 12-hour Amazonian Clay blush but I just could never justify paying $35 for one – even though this blush is probably one of the most raved about FOREVER amongst beauty and makeup fanatics.  When I saw that this little gift set came with a mini version of the Amazonian Clay formula I was super excited to give this a go and see if the the hype is really all that it is!  After wearing this blush pretty much everyday since I got it – YES!  The Tarte clay blush formula is really long-wearing, with a beautiful, smooth, radiant finish!  This shade in particular – Unstoppable – is a great muted, neutral pinky-nude shade that is awesome for everyday.  This makes me think that the $35 for a full-size Tarte blush isn’t all that ridiculous now – this mini will probably last me at least a year or two (or three); a full-size would last waaay longer than that!

The lipstick is a mini of the Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick formula. It’s a creamy matte formula with very high pigmentation. When I first applied this, I really didn’t expect too much, but wow – talk about creamy, lightweight, comfortable AND high colour pay off. This is a matte formula but it feels so nourishing, creamy and light on the lips!  The shade I have is Living and it’s a deep pink – a dark pinky brown (on my lips anyway).  This wears pretty well through out the day and if I don’t disturb it too much (i.e. eating, drinking) I’m left with a nice stain on my lips. The full-size lipstick retails for $26 and I think this a pretty reasonable price for the quality of the product.

And lastly, the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara that claims to lengthen, volumize, curl and condition. I think this mascara is OK – it doesn’t really do anything spectacular for my lashes but it does enough of a good job that I will continue use it.  For the price point ($25 for the full-size), I’d actually prefer my Maybelline Colossal Cat Eyes mascara from the drugstore for $4.99 to give me decent looking lashes for day-to-day.

Overall, I’m very happy with this set!  I’m sure I will finish all the products up eventually and it’s given me a very good idea of what Tarte products are all about!

Have you tried any Tarte products?  If so, what’s your fave?

bareMinerals GEN NUDEs: Radiant Lipstick and Matte Liquid Lipcolour

Last year bareMinerals came out with a new line of lipsticks, lipglosses, liquid lipsticks, and lip liners: The Gen Nudes range.  When I came across the display in Sephora I was seriously hypnotized by all the beautiful colours and formulas. Of course, I picked up a couple products from the new line:

Radiant Lipstick in Panko and Matte Liquid Lip Colour in Friendship:

The Radiant Lipstick is a super creamy formula and feels like a nourishing balm on my lips. It’s formulated with natural oils, so this makes for really comfortable wear. I’m kind of addicted to this formula!  The shade Panko is described as a ‘spiced coral’.  I love this on my lips – the coral colour (not super bright) compliments my medium skintone and with some bronzer on my cheeks this definitely finishes off a sun-kissed look. This can be worn sheer or built up to a pretty full coverage lipstick. Because this is so creamy, it doesn’t have lasting power – frequent sips of coffee or eating will fade this off the lips, but re-applying this is a treat because it feels very good on the lips!

The Matte Liquid Lip Colour is a very comfortable liquid lipstick. This has the lightest, whipped-like texture that it glides on so easily onto the lips and is a joy to apply – not to mention the vanilla/cake scent – yum!  This goes on creamy and then dries down to a matte finish.  Make sure you exfoliate and moisturize your lips well before applying this so it doesn’t accentuate any dry spots. The shade I have is called Friendship and is described as ‘antique rose’ – on me, it shows as a medium to deep pink/mauve shade which is pretty wearable for everyday.

The Gen Nude range quite possibly has the best nude lip product selection I have ever seen in my life.  All skin tones – from very fair to very deep – I’m pretty sure, will find their ‘perfect nude’.  And because the colours are mostly neutral (beiges, browns, pinks, corals, mauves, reds – both lighter and deeper versions of all of these), I truly believe that so many skin tones will be able to wear a lot of these shades. If any of you are on the hunt for some great, natural lip colours in a variety of formulas, I really really recommend you take a look at this range!

There’s a very good chance I’ll be picking up at least another colour in each of these formulas – excellent quality for the price ($20-$25Cdn). And for sure, I’ll be picking up one of the Gen Nude Buttercream lip glosses to try out eventually.

Have you tried any of the bareMinerals Gen Nude lip products?  Which ones, and like or dislike?

L’oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation

You may have noticed I’ve been MIA from beauty reviews in the last little while. Frankly, I did a little makeup budget haul and realized I was over-spending a little too much on products for my wallet’s liking.  I haven’t really bought much makeup in the last few months (spending most of my money on skin care these days). And having a good run-through of my current makeup stash, I realized I have more makeup to last me half a lifetime.

Although I’m being more picky (i.e. wise) with what I spend my money on these days, I really wanted to get my hands on the L’oreal Infallible Pro Glow foundation.  I quite enjoy the L’oreal Infallible Pro Matte foundation which gives more of a full-coverage, matte finish.  My combo skin right now, is slightly drier during this harsh winter, so anything matte tends to cling to my dry spots. The Pro Glow claims to provide 24-hour wear and provide a glowy, radiant finish.  Thought it would be the perfect time for me to try it out.

The shade I’m using is Natural Beige 205.  At my drugstore, the range has about 12 shades. I settled on 205 because it was one of the two (Sun Beige 208) that looked to have the most yellow undertone in it which I thought would be a good match for my skintone.  Sun Beige 208 seems yellow based too, but looked too dark for my winter skin (however, I might have to pick this up for when I have a tan!)

I’ve been wearing this every day for the last week and I really like this foundation!  It does leave a radiant and very natural looking finish – my skin still looks like skin.  I apply a light layer with my beauty blender and this provides seamless coverage. It blends very easily – the formula is liquidy and light and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin.  This can be built up to a medium, almost full coverage but I really like the coverage it provides with one, thin layer.

I don’t find that this foundation oxidizes (yay!) but at the end of the day – with a good 8 hours wear –  I would say it slightly is darker but that’s probably because my oils are at full-force by that time of day. No complaints because I’ve had some foundations oxidize within 15 minutes of applying – ugh!

This lasts pretty much through out my whole work day (8 hours) and when I get home a quick check in the mirror shows that my blush/bronzer is still there, so that’s a good sign.

Although this foundation is marketed for drier skin, I can definitely see this being a good foundation for most skintypes.  With my oilier T-zone (all year round), this foundation doesn’t keep that area matte, but setting powder takes care of that if I feel I need it.

Overall, I am really enjoying this foundation – it might be one at the drugstore that I’ll come back to. It ticks off all the things I look for in a foundation and for half the price of some the high end foundations I really like, this is a great option!

Side note:  I’m a big fan of L’oreal foundations, so it didn’t really surprise me that I liked the Pro Glow.  Some of my faves are the Pro Matte, Tru Match, and Lumi, all by L’oreal!

Have you tried the L’oreal Infallible Pro Glow?  Like or dislike?  Have you tried any other L’oreal foundations, if so, what’s your fave?
