L’oreal Pure Clay Face Masks

I am addicted to facial masks. Clay masks, hydrating masks, sheet masks – you name it, I love them all. Some of you ladies and gents think, “I don’t have time for that”. But trust me, if you’re serious about skincare, it’s definitely worth the investment in time to pop on a mask, at least once a week, to amp up your skincare routine.

I was super excited when L’oreal came out with 3 clay masks, all meant to do different things.  Of course, being the guinea pig I am for all of you, I bought all three – and at a great deal, each on sale for $12 Cdn.  If you know, there are some masks out there that cost an arm and leg, so getting 3 masks for the price of one higher end sounded like a pretty good deal to me.

I have tried all three and I’ll give you my thoughts on each of them.

For you sensitive skins, all these masks are very fragrant, so keep that in mind, if you find fragrance irritating in your skincare products.

All of these masks are suggested to leave on for 10 minutes, wait to dry, and rinse away.  Personally, my skin is not overly sensitive, so I will typically leave these on for at least 20-30 minutes.

Also, I’ve been using these masks 2 to 3 times a week – rotating every other day with each one.

The red one: Exfoliate & Refine (made of 3 pure clays, red algae, apricot; exfoliates dead skin cells; unclogs and tightens pores)

This is probably my favourite one out of the three. Simply because of manual exfoliation of this mask (since I typically use glycolic acid pads daily for exfoliation) a good once-a-week “scrub” on my skin does it wonders. As you can probably guess, this leaves my face feeling really refined and smooth after using. I let it dry and then wet my hands with water and start massaging into my face. The mask starts to soften up and in circular motions, I work the exfoliating granules into my skin. Rinse away and I’m left with soft, clean, and refreshed skin. If you’ve ever tried the Origins Rose Clay Mask, this one is very similar – but half the price!

The mint green one:  Purify & Mattify (made of 3 pure clays and eucalyptus; for oily and shiny skin)

This mask is the one that leaves my skin the most vibrant and bright looking immediately afterwards.  I love it!  I don’t have overly oily skin and although this mask is targeted for oily types, I think as long as you don’t have super dry skin, this is a good clay mask staple to have in your stash. The scent of eucalyptus is quite strong (I don’t mind it) and it makes me feel like I’m getting a spa treatment. This leave my skin super fresh and clean feeling after using, and somehow bright, luminous and really healthy.  For a mattifying mask, it certainly does, without overdrying.  This is one that I will definitely be repurchasing once I run out of it.

The grey one:  Detox & Brighten (made of 3 pure clays and charcoal; for tired and dull-looking skin)

This mask is your standard charcoal mask. I’d say very comparable to the Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Clay Mask and the Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask (which I do like very much).  And for about half the price of the Clinique and Origins masks, I’m pretty happy with the quality and performance of the L’oreal one.  After using this mask, my skin definitely looks and feels much cleaner – my pores look like they’ve had a good deep clean!  Definitely a detoxifying mask that sucks out all the impurities and doesn’t leave my skin dry afterwards. I can see this being a really good one to use in the summer months, when I tend to be a little oilier and being outside more, my skin could use this for a really good detox.

If you’re just starting out to clay masks, these are some good options to try (again, if you’re overly sensitive to fragrance, because these do pack a bit of a punch in that respect). Price point is good and the convenience of finding them at your local drugstore is a plus.

I give all three L’oreal Pure Clay Face Masks:  a STANDING OVATION

Have you tried any of these yet?  What’s your favourite?

L’oreal Infallible Pro Glow Foundation

You may have noticed I’ve been MIA from beauty reviews in the last little while. Frankly, I did a little makeup budget haul and realized I was over-spending a little too much on products for my wallet’s liking.  I haven’t really bought much makeup in the last few months (spending most of my money on skin care these days). And having a good run-through of my current makeup stash, I realized I have more makeup to last me half a lifetime.

Although I’m being more picky (i.e. wise) with what I spend my money on these days, I really wanted to get my hands on the L’oreal Infallible Pro Glow foundation.  I quite enjoy the L’oreal Infallible Pro Matte foundation which gives more of a full-coverage, matte finish.  My combo skin right now, is slightly drier during this harsh winter, so anything matte tends to cling to my dry spots. The Pro Glow claims to provide 24-hour wear and provide a glowy, radiant finish.  Thought it would be the perfect time for me to try it out.

The shade I’m using is Natural Beige 205.  At my drugstore, the range has about 12 shades. I settled on 205 because it was one of the two (Sun Beige 208) that looked to have the most yellow undertone in it which I thought would be a good match for my skintone.  Sun Beige 208 seems yellow based too, but looked too dark for my winter skin (however, I might have to pick this up for when I have a tan!)

I’ve been wearing this every day for the last week and I really like this foundation!  It does leave a radiant and very natural looking finish – my skin still looks like skin.  I apply a light layer with my beauty blender and this provides seamless coverage. It blends very easily – the formula is liquidy and light and doesn’t feel heavy on the skin.  This can be built up to a medium, almost full coverage but I really like the coverage it provides with one, thin layer.

I don’t find that this foundation oxidizes (yay!) but at the end of the day – with a good 8 hours wear –  I would say it slightly is darker but that’s probably because my oils are at full-force by that time of day. No complaints because I’ve had some foundations oxidize within 15 minutes of applying – ugh!

This lasts pretty much through out my whole work day (8 hours) and when I get home a quick check in the mirror shows that my blush/bronzer is still there, so that’s a good sign.

Although this foundation is marketed for drier skin, I can definitely see this being a good foundation for most skintypes.  With my oilier T-zone (all year round), this foundation doesn’t keep that area matte, but setting powder takes care of that if I feel I need it.

Overall, I am really enjoying this foundation – it might be one at the drugstore that I’ll come back to. It ticks off all the things I look for in a foundation and for half the price of some the high end foundations I really like, this is a great option!

Side note:  I’m a big fan of L’oreal foundations, so it didn’t really surprise me that I liked the Pro Glow.  Some of my faves are the Pro Matte, Tru Match, and Lumi, all by L’oreal!

Have you tried the L’oreal Infallible Pro Glow?  Like or dislike?  Have you tried any other L’oreal foundations, if so, what’s your fave?

L’oreal True Match LUMI Foundation SPF 20

Ok, so right off the hop I’m going to say that this foundation might very well be my favourite drugstore foundation EVER. For those of you who’ve been following my blog for some time, you all know that I am a drugstore foundation junkie – just browse through my reviews and you’ll see that I’ve probably tried the majority of drugstore foundations out there!

I have many that I really like, however, the L’oreal True Match LUMI foundation knocks all of them off my shelf!

For someone who doesn’t want crazy full coverage but just enough to even out skintone with light to medium coverage, this is exactly what this does for me.  Typically my skin type is combination (oily T-zone, normal to dry perimeter), but in the colder months, the dryness creeps up all over.  This foundation is perfect for drier skintypes in my opinion, but even with an oily T-zone some days, this works perfect for me too.

This definitely gives a very natural, luminous finish and looks like my skin but 100 times better.  I love the slight dewiness it gives me and a youthful, fresh glow it leaves.  I’ve applied this with both a flat-top foundation brush and a beauty blender and both techniques leave a beautiful, seamless finish.  It does not settle into my fine lines. Although it doesn’t cover up everything (i.e. age spots) I don’t mind — the overall finish I get on my entire face with this product is amazing.

After using this foundation, I will set my face with face powder to tone down any over-dewiness and keep the foundation in place.  As far as wear time, on me, this lasts a good 6-7 hours I’d say, before I see some sort of fading  — typical of most foundations.

Really, this foundation is number one for me right now!  I’m curious to see how this works on my more combo skin once the warmer months start.  And bonus – this has got SPF 20 in it which doesn’t interfere with the finish or colour of the foundation (i.e. no whitecast, no strong SPF smell or stinging around the eyes, like some SPF products can result in.)

And I think a big part of why I’m loving this foundation so much is the colour match – W5 Sand Beige is hands down, probably the best drugstore foundation shade match I’ve discovered in years!!  (The L’oreal True Match range is actually awesome for the amount of shades they carry to cater from fair to deep skintones).  I have a feeling that even in the summer months, this will still be OK for my slightly oiler skin – and the colour selection is so good that going up to a 5.5 or 6 will probably work out great for me.

I already know, this will be a drugstore foundation option I will continue to go back to many many times!  Possibly even the ONLY drugstore foundation I will continue to repurchase from now on – whoa!

I give the L’oreal True Match LUMI foundation SPF 20: a STANDING OVATION
