Sephora Spring 2016 Sale – What I got (and mini-reviews)!

So, when I received my 15% off discount card in the mail and an email from Sephora reminding me of this spring special, I hopped onto the website immediately to start filling my basket and ticking off more “Loves”, in preparation for purchase!  I was very very tempted to spend an embarrassing amount of money on things that I’ve lusted after for a long time, but I tried my best to pick things that I only really really wanted/needed.  So here’s what I got!

(And if I’ve done a full review on a product, I’ll link the name and you can read more about it!)

bareMinerals bareSkin Perfecting Veil in Tan/Dark:  This is a replacement of the same compact I completely hit pan on!  I love this setting powder – perfect colour, doesn’t look cakey and leaves such a natural finish on my skin. Love!

Clinique Mild Clarifying Lotion:  This is also a replacement – I think this might be my third or fourth bottle of this toner.  This is a great, alcohol-free lotion that makes my skin feeling refreshed and clean. Love!

Laura Mercier Secret Concealer in Number 4:  This is a re-purchase – for my sister!  I’m still working on my little pot but she needed another one.  This is an awesome peach-toned corrector for dark undereye circles. The LM line of concealer/correctors have an amazing shade selection and the formula of this is creamy and perfect.

Elizabeth and James Nirvana White Rollerball:  This is a personal love of mine, but this purchase is actually for my Ma for upcoming Mother’s Day – SHHH!  Since the E&J Nirvana scents have come out, I’ve been completely in love with the both of them – Nirvana Black is my personal fave but White is something I wear quite often as well, especially during the warmer months.  Anyway, me and my Ma were in Sephora one day and she sampled this on her wrist and said that she really liked it. So, naturally, I bought it for her 🙂

Clinique Take the Day Off Micellar Cleansing Towelettes:  I noticed these new wipes by Clinique and I decided to try ’em out because 1.) I love Clinique products; and 2.) I love wipes!  I’ve used these a couple times and I have to say – they’re just OK.  They definitely don’t remove waterproof mascara – a bit of rough rubbing will do it but I don’t recommend it. It’s great for pre-removing makeup before actually cleansing the face. And I always feel I have to rinse/cleanse after using this because it leaves a bit of an oily film behind. Not the greatest wipes I’ve tried, but does a basic job nonetheless. And for 50 towelettes in a really great re-sealable package for $17, not a bad price.

NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in Stromboli:  This is a new purchase. I hesitated for sooooo long on this because of the price – $58 Cdn for a foundation???  I’ve never spent that much on a foundation. BUT, with the discount and all the great reviews I’ve read/heard/watched about this foundation, I thought now’s the best time to try it out!  I will definitely join the ranks of my fellow beauty junkies and will do a full review on this as soon as I give it a go! Stay tuned 🙂

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Pepper:  This is a new purchase and one I’ve been wanting to make for a loooong time!  My first Bite Beauty lipstick purchase and in the shade Pepper – a mauve colour. And I finally have my grubby little hands on it, yahoo!

And as an added bonus buying online, I was able to snag a few samples and one point perk (by the time I made my purchases online, they had a very limited selection of 100-point perks and no more 250 or 500 perks! Gah!)

Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Charcoal Mask

Don’t underestimate the power of a good facial mask!  I’ve been on the hunt for a few varieties to tackle my particular skin concerns — a good one to absorb excess oil and to help clean out my pores and also a good one for when my skin needs hydration.  For my first concern I found the Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Charcoal mask works really well for me.

On the Sephora website:

What it is:
A mattifying mask that absorbs oil, impurities, and environmental pollutants to help detoxify skin.

What it is formulated to do:
Pore Refining Solutions Charcoal Mask absorbs oil, impurities, and environmental pollutants for a clear, refreshed complexion. Charcoal powder draws out deep-seated debris to purify pores, while mineral clays soak up excess oil. Recommended for dry combination to oily skin types, the oil-free formula leaves skin feeling renewed and smooth with noticeably refined pores.

This product is an Allure Best of Beauty award winner.

For $29 Cdn with 3.4 oz. (or 100 ml), I think this is a really great price for what you’re getting.

I’ve tried a few charcoal/clay masks over the last year — Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal mask, The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay mask and the Glamglow Supermud mask — they’re all really great at making my skin feel refreshed and cleaned out, but the Clinique mask seems to be more gentle than the others, while working just as well as the others.

This works like your typical clay mask.  About two quarter size globs is what I use to cover my entire face to get a semi-thick layer. After about 20 minutes, it dries and I removed the majority with a few water-soaked cotton pads first and then rinse the remaining off with warm water.  I’m left with skin that feels super soft and my pores look and feel cleaner.

I used this mask once a week (sometimes twice) in the warmer months when my skin is oiler and now, in the winter months I use it once every 2-3 weeks depending on whether I feel like my face needs a good pore-out.

And the fact that this comes in an easy, squeeze tube is also a win in my books — way less messy.  I’m not a big fan of masks in a tub that you have to dig your fingers into to get.

I really like a lot of Clinique products and as I look at my skincare arsenal right now, Clinique is a brand that stands out. I’m glad to have added this mask to my collection!

I give the Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Charcoal Mask: a STANDING OVATION

Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray Thirsty Skin Relief

I’ve really been re-interested in the Clinique skincare line lately.  As a young girl, I remember Clinique being the first ‘high-end’ skincare brand I ever dabbled in — that cult classic yellow lotion everyone knows, Dramatically Different lotion, was the first product I coveted (probably from a bonus time offer my mom had scored).

Anyway, in terms of skincare, I’ve been enjoying a handful of products over the last year from Clinique:  the Mild Clarifying Lotion; the Even Better Essence Lotion; and the City Block SPF 25 lotion.  I’ve also tried and loved their Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief — the lotion form of this spray!

Having tried a small sample size of their Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief cream and loving how it instantly took care of any dry patches on my face, I wanted to try another bit from that range so I bought the Moisture Surge Face Spray:

On the Sephora website:

What it is:
An oil-free face spray that rapidly replenishes skin’s moisture level, restoring balance, softening, and soothing.

What it is formulated to do:
Bursting with moisture and active aloe, this must-have oil-free face spray softens and soothes the skin while hydrating and restoring balance. The perfect size to use on the go for showers of thirsty skin relief, this spray rapidly refreshes and rejuvenates the skin.

First off, I love that this is oil-free and alcohol free.

I’ve been using this for about two weeks now.  Sometimes I’ll spray it on after my toner to add some extra hydration or I’ll spray it in replacement of my toner.  About 3 spritzes all over my face and a bit of fanning action with both my hands, allows this to absorb and dry quickly into my skin. Skin feels plumped, soft and refreshed.

But what I’ve really been loving this spray for is for spraying all over my face after applying makeup. I can’t attest that this actually sets my makeup or makes it last longer throughout the day, but it definitely takes away any ‘cakeiness’ if I’ve over-powdered my face. It settles my makeup and with 2-3 spritzes it seems to make everything look a bit more natural.

I’m very excited to have added this to my skincare/makeup arsenal — super excited to see how this performs once autumn/winter months come around when my skin tends to get drier. I am 100% certain that this spray will be awesome for hydrating my skin. And to boot, it’ll be so easy to incorporate this into my routine because it’s a spray — 2 seconds, 2-3 spritzes and done!

I would definitely recommend this to anyone (guys and gals) who wants some extra hydration without the fuss of an extra lotion or cream on your dressing table. And if you want a spray for over your makeup, on those days you might go overboard, this is a great one to have nearby.
