fresh Rose Face Mask

Hey there! I am a huge fan of facial masks – I love that there are so many different kinds out there on the market these days that help with almost any skin concern or even just for a good pampering. A few months ago, I received the Sephora birthday gift which was the fresh Soy Cleanser and the Rose Face Mask. Honestly, I did not like the fresh Soy Cleanser at all, but I’ve really enjoyed using the Rose Face Mask:

Sephora says:

What it is:
A hydrating and toning gel mask with a cult following that’s infused with real rose petals, pure rosewater, and a smart algae that delivers optimum moisture.

Solutions for:
– Dryness
– Redness
– Pores

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

Research results:
In vivo test:
– 100% reported healthy-looking, supple skin
– 93% felt their skin was moisturized, softened, smoothed, and soothed
– 93% noticed a cooling and calming sensation
– 90% said it nourished and visibly improved the appearance of their skin

This is very different to the masks that I’ve tried – typically I use clay masks that really clean out my pores. Or sheet masks that offer some serious serum action when I feel like my face needs some extra attention.

The Rose Face mask is definitely one that leaves my skin super hydrated and super soft. Like super duper soft.  I’m not a big fan of roses or the smell of roses, so that’s a bit of a turn-off for me, but the way my skin feels after using this mask outweighs my dislike of the smell. Don’t get me wrong – it’s not a BAD smell… I personally just don’t like the smell of roses.

It’s a gel-like formula, with little bits of rose petals in it.  Initially, I was worried that it would be too liquidy and would slide off my face, but it doesn’t.  It feels so cooling and refreshing once it’s on the skin; no burning or tingling sensation whatsoever.  I leave this on for about 15-20 minutes.  As you can suspect, this doesn’t harden like a clay mask; rather, it dries out a bit but still stays moist, if that makes any sense?

I rinse this off with warm water, pat my face with a towel and I’m left with the softest and radiant looking skin.  I follow up with my regular toner and moisturizer or oil and that’s it!

This is a great mask to use on days when you feel like you need a boost of hydration or if your skin is feeling a bit “angry” – the rose and rosewater helps to calm things down.  I also feel like this mask would be gentle enough to use everyday (or at least 3 times a week).

I really do like this mask and I’m hoping my little sample size lasts me a while, because the full-size of this product at a price point of $72 Cdn for 100ml, there’s really no way in hell that I’m going to pay that price.  I like this mask, but I don’t love it that much!

I give the fresh Rose Face Mask: a HIGH FIVE

Have you tried this mask?  Like or dislike?  Do you have any suggestions for me on masks that are similar to this one but way more affordable?

April Birchbox 2015

A few days late, but here’s what I got in my April Birchbox!

First, can I just say how much I love the pattern on this month’s box?  So pretty!

Roller Lash Mascara by Benefit:  There’s been a lot of hype around this latest release by Benefit Cosmetics and rightfully so — this mascara is awesome. If you’re looking for something that totally defines, separates, curls and lengthens you lashes, this is the mascara for you!  I’m really picky about mascaras and this one is definitely one on my “buy next” list.

Not Soap, Radio Bathing with Sharks Body Wash:  This body wash smells sooooo good! It’s got a fresh, beach scent that cleanses the skin nicely without leaving any residue or feeling too stripped of moisture.

Jelly Pong Pong GLOW GETTER Highlighter:  This is quite similar (in formula) to the Benefit High Beam highlighter. It’s a very lightweight gel formula that gives the skin a very subtle shimmer. This one is just slightly less shimmery, I’d say, and the colour of this is just gorgeous – a gold, almost rose-gold hue. I’ve tried this on the tops of my cheekbones and it gives a really nice sheen to the skin, without too much “sparkle”. You have to work quickly to blend this in as it tends to set quite fast.

Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream:  This is a creamy shave cream in a fresh pomegranate scent. I haven’t tried this yet, but I imagine it will work just as well as any other shave cream!

Mèreadesso All-in-One Moisturizer:  This is a moisturizer that claims to be an anti-aging day/night cream, serum, eye cream, toner and primer in one. I have yet to try this so-called miracle lotion out but it sounds pretty good to me!

Thanks for stopping by!!

January Favourites

Hey Pretties!

Here are my January favourites!  The first favourites post of 2015! Where I have done a more in-depth review, I will link in the product name.

My January Favourites.

Clinique Mild Clarifying TonerI had been searching for a toner sans alcohol (the bad kind) and found this one. As you can see from the photo, I’m just about done this and have loved every drop of it. This bottle has lasted me about 4 months– with pretty much at least once a day use (not bad!). This toner helps to prep my skin for my serum and moisturizer, leaving a fresh and non-drying feeling to my face. It also helps to get any last bit of cleanser that I may have negleted to rinse away.

Definitely a re-purchase item!

Purchased at Sephora for $16 Cdn.

Urban Decay Naked Basics Flushed Palette in NakedThe original bronzer/blush/highlight palette in the UD Flushed range. The quality of the powders are wonderful — silky and so easy to blend into the skin. The pigmentation of these powders are amazing; I have to remember to use a light hand! Small, compact and packaging is a beaute. I reached for this quite a bit in January because a.) it had all 3 products in 1; and b.) it’s so pretty!

Definitely a re-purchase item… however, I don’t think I’ll be able to get through this palette any time soon!

Purchased at Sephora for $35 Cdn.

Sonia Kashuk Buffing Brush No.130I bought this on a whim, wanting to see if another foundation buffing brush could match or surpass my love for the Real Techniques buffing brush. Oh. My. Gosh. This SK Buffing Brush has left my RT buffing brush in the dust (well, not completely, I rotate). I have reached for this probably almost every time I’ve applied foundation this January. I’ve had to remind myself to clean this brush every Sunday because that’s how much I’ve used it! Bristles are soft but dense enough to apply my liquid foundation seamlessly; size of brush is a bit bigger than the RT buffing brush so it makes for faster application. After many washes, this has not lost it’s shape or shedded.

Definitely wanting at least a couple more of this brush!

Purchased at Target for $12.99 Cdn.

Clinique Bottom Lash MascaraNever thought I’d “need” a mascara specifically for my lower lashes, but this little invention is great. Makes applying mascara to the little, bitty lower lash hairs easy and without mess!

I would re-purchase this as a treat to myself, but it’s not a must have.

Purchased at Sephora for $12 Cdn.

Eucerin Calming Anti-Itch Relief Lotion: This lotion is a gooder. One of the pricier skincare brands at the drugstore but well-worth the money. I’ve battled with scalp eczema for a few years now and have recently noticed that my scalp condition has turned into having more “typical” itchy and dry symptoms, not so much eczema flare-ups. Trying to stay away from shampoos and lotions (i.e. my prescription hydrocortisone cream) with high chemical content, I switched to using this Eucerin lotion on my scalp and it definitely has calmed down my urge to scratch. Used this on my arms and legs as well — lightweight, fragrance-free, easily absorbed.

I would repurchase if I needed to, however I’m still on the hunt for an even more effective option.

Purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart for $12 Cdn (on sale).

The Body Shop Shea Body Mist: I am completely in love with the Shea range from The Body Shop and this body mist is soo nice. I’ve got the Shea hand cream, body lotion, body oil and body butter. Can’t get enough of Shea! This mist is true to the Shea scent — soft, nutty, powdery — great for daytime wear.

Will definitely repurchase.

Purchased at The Body Shop for $13 Cdn.

Those are my January faves!  Have you tried any of these products?  Any of them your faves too?
