Tarte Magical Moments Deluxe Best Sellers Essentials Set

A few months overdue, but for Christmas, my bestie Jenn surprised me with the Tarte Magical Moments Deluxe Best Sellers Set.  I was so excited to receive this because it included three samplers of products that I knew I would use!

The blush is in the colour Unstoppable; the lipstick is in the shade Living; and the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara is in black.

I’ve hummed and hawed about indulging myself in a full-size Tarte 12-hour Amazonian Clay blush but I just could never justify paying $35 for one – even though this blush is probably one of the most raved about FOREVER amongst beauty and makeup fanatics.  When I saw that this little gift set came with a mini version of the Amazonian Clay formula I was super excited to give this a go and see if the the hype is really all that it is!  After wearing this blush pretty much everyday since I got it – YES!  The Tarte clay blush formula is really long-wearing, with a beautiful, smooth, radiant finish!  This shade in particular – Unstoppable – is a great muted, neutral pinky-nude shade that is awesome for everyday.  This makes me think that the $35 for a full-size Tarte blush isn’t all that ridiculous now – this mini will probably last me at least a year or two (or three); a full-size would last waaay longer than that!

The lipstick is a mini of the Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick formula. It’s a creamy matte formula with very high pigmentation. When I first applied this, I really didn’t expect too much, but wow – talk about creamy, lightweight, comfortable AND high colour pay off. This is a matte formula but it feels so nourishing, creamy and light on the lips!  The shade I have is Living and it’s a deep pink – a dark pinky brown (on my lips anyway).  This wears pretty well through out the day and if I don’t disturb it too much (i.e. eating, drinking) I’m left with a nice stain on my lips. The full-size lipstick retails for $26 and I think this a pretty reasonable price for the quality of the product.

And lastly, the Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara that claims to lengthen, volumize, curl and condition. I think this mascara is OK – it doesn’t really do anything spectacular for my lashes but it does enough of a good job that I will continue use it.  For the price point ($25 for the full-size), I’d actually prefer my Maybelline Colossal Cat Eyes mascara from the drugstore for $4.99 to give me decent looking lashes for day-to-day.

Overall, I’m very happy with this set!  I’m sure I will finish all the products up eventually and it’s given me a very good idea of what Tarte products are all about!

Have you tried any Tarte products?  If so, what’s your fave?

Bite Beauty Multistick: Mascarpone

When this product came out I was instantly drawn to it – a lipstick, blusher and eyeshadow in one?  I suppose any makeup product can go beyond what it’s meant to be (I’ve used lipstick as blush before!) but to have something officially marketed as a 3-in-1, well, I got suckered in!

This is the Bite Beauty Multistick in Mascarpone:

As per Sephora:

What it is:
A multistick that applies like a cream and wears like a powder for weightless color application—just apply with your finger or a brush on the eyes, lips, and cheeks.

What it does:
With 35 percent powder in each Multistick bullet, this silicone-free formula creates a soft focus finish that’s blendable, breathable, and buildable. It features universal shades for the eyes, lips, and cheeks that compliment all skintones and are formulated to use anywhere on the face.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Phthalates

What else you need to know:
Bite Beauty products are free of petrochemicals and silicones.

The shade range of the BB Multisticks are awesome – from nudes, pinks, corals, to deeper red and brown shades – there is something for every skintone. It was hard for me to choose just one shade to start with, but I settled on Mascarpone – a deep pink shade that I thought would look great on my medium skintone and would be a perfect transition shade into the autumn season – still fresh and natural, but with a bit more depth.

On the cheeks, I use the stick directly on my face, apply a couple little swipes and blend with my fingers. I use the Beauty Blender to clean up any wonky edges.  The finish it leaves is exactly as how Sephora describes:  “applies like a cream and wears like a powder” and “creates a soft focus finish”.  The lasting power of this as a blush is actually quite impressive – a full 8-hour day at work and by the time I get home the colour is still there.

On the lips, this gives a semi-matte finish. It’s surprisingly creamy to apply and feels comfortable on my lips, in spite of it being matte.  The colour pay-off is pretty amazing, easy to build up and doesn’t seem to cling to any dry patches. The lasting power is decent – not as long as a liquid lipstick but longer than a cream-formula.

I have not tried this on my eyes and probably won’t in all honesty – the shade I chose was one that I wanted primarily for my lips and cheeks. However, some of the deeper brown shades in the range would probably look amazing as eyeshadows.

The Bite Beauty Multistick is a great product for travelling – whether in your everyday makeup bag or if you’re going away  – you potentially have 3 products in one little bullet!

I’m already eyeing up another shade to purchase – loving this product.

Purchased at Sephora for $28Cdn.

Sephora Colorful Cheek Ink Gel: Lotus

Do you ever buy something on a whim and just hope for the best?  I completely didn’t know what to expect when I bought this Sephora Cheek Gel in Lotus – the idea of a gel stain as a blusher that would presumably last a really long time on the face was one idea that perked my interest.

According to Sephora:

What it is:
A translucent, long-wearing, buildable gel stain that gives skin a natural flushed look.

What it does:
This non-sticky gel blush stain gives skin a pop of color that lasts. Infused with hibiscus extract, the formula leaves skin looking fresh for hours. Colors are sheer when first applied to skin, allowing you to build color for more intensity. A little goes a long way so you get maximum uses from a single tube.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens

What else you need to know:
This product is not tested on animals.

Beauty Tip:
This gel is designed for long-lasting results. Apply with a makeup brush to avoid staining fingers.

Right off the hop, I’ll tell you that this product is awesome! It is a very light, gel stain formula that gives me the most natural, flattering flush of colour on my cheeks.  It very much gives a translucent finish in that it’s almost like the colour is radiating from the inside-out, rather than sitting on top of my skin, if that makes any sense. This colour I chose, Lotus, is a sheer red shade that makes me look like I just finished a gym sesh – minus the sweat and stink!

As far as it being a stain – oh yes, this is definitely a stain!  I typically apply this with my finger – I put about half a pea-size amount on my middle finger and apply dots onto my cheek (one cheek at a time girls, as this formula sets super fast!).  Quickly, I blend it in either with a Beauty Blender or a small stippling brush – both work equally well, however, I like the application of the stippling blush a bit more since the Beauty Blender tends to soak up the formula a bit more (which leads me to having to apply more).  My finger is definitely stained with the colour, but with a few hand washing sessions throughout the day, eventually the colour fades.

With that said, the lasting power of this gel is AMAZING!  This literally lasts on my cheeks the entire day – even when the rest of face makeup fades, this blush is still on!

It’s a bit tricky to apply – better to start with a bit and build slowly to get the desired intensity.  With Lotus, being one of the more deeper, vibrant shades of the collection, it’s very easy to intensify. There are a few more sheer and subtle pink/peach shades that, when I swatched at Sephora, were very light and needed more product to build up the colour.  Not a bad thing, if you want a very natural, fresh look.  No matter which shade you choose though, this formula will give you a very fresh, translucent, easy, and natural glow to your cheeks and will last all day!

I think I found a new blush favourite!

Purchased at Sephora for $18 Cdn.
