November Favourites/Product Empties #5

Hey Pretties!

I completely missed October Favourites – gah! Today I thought I’d kill two birds with one stone and do my November Favourites/Product Empties post — these products are ones that have taken me pretty much through all of November and I’ve used each one up (except for one). I’ve done reviews on most of these products, so I will simply link those posts below if you’re interested in reading my thoughts on those!

Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover – Probably one of the most effective and gentle eye makeup remover out on the drugstore shelves. I think this bottle lasted me a good 2-3 months; I’m already on my second bottle. Takes waterproof eyeliner and mascara off without having to rub.

Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief – A lifesaver for my combination skin that tends to get more dry patches in the cold winter months. Literally a drink for your skin — all my dry patches were gone!

FAB Facial Radiance Pads – A great option for getting your AHA (glycolic acid) exfoliation done and done. A bit on the pricey side, for my liking, but a very good product for brighter skin.

FAB Face Cleanser – I really liked this cleanser and although I said in my previous review that the price puts me off, it is something that I’ve grown to enjoy the more and more I use it. So it might eventually be a staple cleanser in my routine one day. Actually sad that I’ve used it all up!

The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Shower Gel – Started using this every time I showered this month and completely fell in love! The smell, the lather, the hydration it left on my skin — thumbs up. Time to get another bottle very soon!

And a few of the products that I haven’t reviewed in the past… here’s my mini-thoughts on them!

Living Proof Thickening Cream – This little container came in a Living Proof sample/travel set I purchased at Sephora for $30 Cdn. The set came with a thickening shampoo, conditioner, a root booster spray and this thickening cream. I loved all the products, but this cream is what I fell in love with. Having fine and thin hair, I’m always on the hunt for something to make my locks look more lush — this did it for me! About a dime size is more than enough to give me a good coat on the bottom half of my hair. After blowdrying and straightening, I can immediately tell a difference in my hair — it looks and feels thicker. Have to be careful with this cream though… anything more than about a dime-size (for my hair length and texture) actually makes my hair feel dry, gritty and unmanageable. I bit on the pricey side — $32 Cdn for only 109 ml/3.7 oz — I hesitated for a long time before purchasing, but this will last me a very long time (I don’t use it every day). Definitely one of the best thickening creams out there, compared to what I’ve tried from the drugstore so far.

The Body Shop Aloe Gentle Exfoliator Face Wash – You all know I’m a huge fan of The Body Shop products — they just do things right! Decided to try out this cleanser and it didn’t disappoint… completely. It is a gentle cleanser with small little exfoliating beads. My skin felt good after using, but something about the texture (cream) didn’t feel like it really cleaned my skin deep down, even with the beads — maybe it’s because I don’t necessarily have sensitive skin. At $15 Cdn for 75 ml, a tad on the pricey side. I wouldn’t repurchase, but I would definitely recommend for those with finicky and sensitive skin if you want something easy and gentle for an everyday cleanser.

e.l.f Lip Exfoliator – I can’t stand dry chapped lips — on me or on anyone, ewww! This little ditty has been a life saver for my dry lips this winter. It’s your pretty standard sugar lip exfoliator but the handy thing is that it comes in a lipstick tube. I apply this to my dry lips just like I’m applying lipstick. Then I kind of swirl it around until the bits of sugar coat my lips and then go in with a finger and really scrub away all the dead bits. I rinse off with warm water and I’m left with smooth, sugary-tasting lips! Apply lip balm immediately afterwards to keep the lips nice and hydrated. For only $3 Cdn it’s the best deal.

There you have it! What are your November favourites? Have you tried any of these products? Like or dislike? Any recommendations on other products similar to these that you think I might like to try?

Thanks for reading!

Product Empties #4

Hi Pretties!

It’s time to look through my trashcan/recycling bin again! Here are a few short reviews on some of the products I’ve emptied out!

Product Empties!: Herbal Essences Naked Shampoo and Conditioner; Tresemme Hairspray; got2be Cashmere Hairspray; Olive Shower gel by The Body Shop; Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm

Tresemmé Hairspray – Firm Control 3

Tresemme Hairspray - Firm Control 3

Tresemme Hairspray – Firm Control 3

This hairspray has to be one of my favourites. It’s got a really fine mist that sprays lightly and evenly on my hair. The holding power of this is light to medium; I know Tresemme makes different “holds” for those who want something lighter or stronger. This formula seems to work great for me in terms of keeping little pesky flyaways at bay and keeping the general shape of my hairstyle in place. It does not feel hard or crunchy; I think I’d have to use a lot of it to get it to feel that way. It’s got a scent, nothing overpowering or offensive, just your typical, light hairspray scent.

I give the Tresemme Hairspray – Firm Control 3: a STANDING OVATION

göt2b Smooth Operator with Cashmere Smoothing Hairspray

got2be Cashmere Hairspray

got2be Smooth Operator with Cashmere Hairspray

Another hairspray empty? No, I’m no hairspray freak, but this one has a stronger hold than the Tresemme, so for days where I really want my hair to stay put, this is the one I reach for. I’ve bought this one a few times — love the scent, sort of a soft, sweet candy smell. The holding power of this is pretty amazing, but it does tend to leave my hair a tad crunchy feeling.

A big thumbs down for me though for this product is the nozzle — for some reason, every single can I’ve purchased and used, the nozzle sprays the hairspray out terribly! It’s unevenly dispersed — I get random spray drops on my nose, on my eyelashes, in my eyeballs, etc. I’ve tried running the nozzle under warm water a few times to clear it out, but nothing works. I think the nozzle is just faulty, seeing is I’ve experienced this more than a couple times with previous cans.

I give the göt2be Smooth Operator with Cashmere Smoothing Hairspray: a SHOULDER SHRUG

Herbal Essences Naked 0% Parabens – Volumizing formula

Herbal Essences Naked 0% Parabens Volumizing Shampoo and Conditoner

Herbal Essences Naked 0% Parabens Volumizing Shampoo and Conditoner

Meh. Nothing too special about this combo, not for me anyway. Unfortunately, I didn’t experience any orgasmic hair-washing moments like those women in the Herbal Essences commercials. Honestly, I had run out of shampoo and conditioner one day and needed something quick and cheap – each of these bottles on sale for $2.99… ok! Plus, an opportunity to review a new product… ok again!

They are scented with white grapefruit and mint extracts — very fresh, zesty smell which I quite like. The plus about these products are that they are paraben-free, which is the marketing behind this line of Herbal Essence. If you’re looking for an affordable, “good-for-you” products, then I say give these a go.

Volumizing? I don’t really think it did much for me. But for an affordable and decent duo, I would re-purchase.

The Body Shop Olive Shower Gel

The Body Shop Olive Shower Gel

The Body Shop Olive Shower Gel

I really enjoyed using this shower gel. The smell is hard to describe — I wouldn’t say it smells like olives, but it does have a very organic, fresh scent. Something about the scent is very comforting. This is a soap free cleanser made with Community Fair Trade cold-pressed olive oil from Italy.

As with most Body Shop shower gel/creams I’ve tried, this one is very moisturizing. And despite the fact that it’s soap-free, it doesn’t take a whole lot to get a good lather going on a loofah — a good thing because that made this 250 ml bottle last me at least a month. I’ve also got the Olive body butter and the smell is identical and I feel that this can be worn all year long.

Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm

Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm

Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm

Probably my favourite lip balm treatment of all time. This $17 glass container has lasted me a solid 4 1/2 months with every day use. If I want something more luxurious on my lips instead of my Blistex, this is what I reach for! (Read my review about it HERE!) And I already have a new Nuxe on the go!

Product Empties #3

Hello Pretties!

I am back to share some of my garbage with you! I’ve got four empty containers of some products that I’ve tried, tested and quite enjoyed for the the duration of their lives here on Earth with me.

Product Empties! L to R: MAC Matchmaster Foundation SPF 15; Dove Blue Fig and Orange Blossom Body Wash; Fat Hair Thickening Spray; Annabelle BB Cream

Product Empties! L to R: MAC Matchmaster Foundation SPF 15; Dove Blue Fig and Orange Blossom Body Wash; Fat Hair Thickening Spray; Annabelle BB Cream

Dove Blue Fig and Orange Blossom Body Wash

Loved this body wash in every way possible! The scent is so fresh and uplifting but somewhat serene at the same time. You will love this I promise if you like a fresh fruity smell in the shower. The Dove body wash range has a handful of scents — this is the one I liked the most doing the sniff test in the drugstore and in second place was one scented with plum and sakura blossom (I bought that and have yet to use it). Aside from the awesome smell, the body wash itself really impressed me — it lathered up very quick and well, and didn’t leave my skin feeling too squeaky clean or too slick and hydrated — a really good in-between cleansed/moisturized feeling. I will definitely continue to purchase this product in the future. I purchased this for $2.99 on sale at SDM.

I give the Dove Blue Fig and Orange Blossom Body Wash: a HIGH FIVE

MAC Matchmaster Foundation SPF 15 in 5.0

You can see from the photo that I’ve tried my hardest to scrape the most of the last bits of this foundation out of the bottle! I really like this foundation. I needed another bottle of my normal MAC Studio Fluid Fix Foundation in NC40, but on that day I went to purchase one, the MAC counter had run out. So the very nice MAC girl offered to find another comparable colour/coverage match for me and I ended up with the MAC Matchmaster Foundation SPF 15 in 5.0. I’m inclined to think that I might actually like this one better than the Studio Fluid Fix. The consistency of this is very smooth and blendable — not too thick, not to thin. The shade 5.0 on me is PERFECT. The coverage is definitely medium and very buildable for days when more coverage is needed. The finish on the skin is demi-matte, slightly dewy — really nice, natural coverage. The packaging is awesome, with the pump and all, but trying to get all the last of the foundation once the bottle is done is a headache! Ah well, I suppose I just have to go buy another! I purchased this for $41 at MAC.

Fat “0” Calories Hair Thickening Spray

I’m always on the hunt for hair products that will make my thin, limp hair look and feel thicker. I came across this spray one day on sale and thought hey, why not? I finished one bottle and bought two more. I can’t say that this has done wonders for my hair, but it has helped to make it feel and look thicker temporarily. I spray it into my damp, towel-dried hair, blow dry it and style. This spray does not leave my hair feeling crunchy or sticky at all, which is awesome. It has a pleasant smell. I find that it does give me that “big hair” look which makes it great for pulling my naturally wavy hair into a pony tail giving me a more “bushy” look, which I like. I haven’t yet tried this spray before straightening my hair to see if it makes my straightened hair look thicker — I’ll have to try it out. In any case, I do like this product but I’m afraid that it might be discontinued — the 2 bottles that I bought were on the clearance shelf at SDM and I haven’t seen it restocked in the normal hair aisle. That’s ok though — I’m sure I can find something even better… any suggestions? I purchased this for $4.99 on sale at SDM.

Annabelle BB Cream

This BB cream is one of my favourite BB creams simply because of the colour match — it’s one of the few yellow-toned drugstore BB creams that are out there. And beleive me, I’ve tried my share of BB creams — click here to read!

I like the Annabelle BB Cream in terms of colour, coverage and feel. This gives me a medium coverage, but still manages to let my skin show through. On days where I want coverage that’s in between a foundation and a tinted moisturizer, this BB cream provides just that. I purchased this for $11.99 on sale at SDM.

I give the Annabelle BB Cream in Medium/Dark: a HIGH FIVE
