October Birchbox 2015 (Canada)

How time flies!  Here’s what I got in my October Birchbox:

October Birchbox 2015 (Canada)

October Birchbox 2015 (Canada)

Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris:  This is a fruity, light perfume. Not really my preference, but a good option for spring/summer.

Harvey Prince Hello Body Cream:  This is a pretty basic body cream.  I appreciate that it sinks quickly into the skin and does not feel greasy.  It smells of lemons mostly, which is refreshing, but I find at times I feel like I smell like dish-washing soap. Not necessarily a bad thing!  But I probably won’t be purchasing the full-size of this.

Eyeko Black Magic Mascara:  Wow. I’m really picky with mascaras and this has shot up to one of my top faves!  I’ve heard of this brand before but really paid no attention. This mascara lengthens, volumizes, separates each lash and hold the curl. I like the cute tube it comes in too — different from all typical mascara packaging!  I am definitely adding this to my list of next purchases (or gift wish list!)

Shea Terra Organics Rose Hips Black Soap Deep Pore Facial Cleanser:  I haven’t tried this facial wash yet, but it looks very unique. This cleanser is an African black soap with a gel-like consistency. It has rose hip oil and is 100% natural.  This is claims to be anti-blemish and is supposed to keep your skin feeling fresh and looking clear.  I have yet to try this but am excited to!

Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle:  This is a leave-in conditioner spray that is amazing at detangling and leaving my hair bouncy and soft! What also impressed me was that it includes heat protectant properties, so I can spray this on and use my heating tools straight away. And the best part of this spray?  THE SMELL!!  It smells of vanilla, like, real vanilla. And it lingers in my hair for a good few hours. I don’t even bother spritzing on any perfume when I use this in my hair.  I am very tempted to order the full-size of this product off Birchbox.ca someday soon!!

BONUS: Hair clip!  Pretty basic hair clip. Does the job!

theBalm CabanaBoy Blush

Autumn is right around the corner and with that comes a transition from ‘summer’ makeup to ‘fall’ makeup. (We beautyphiles know this too well!)  As I crave warmer colours to wear like olive, rust and grey, I’m also getting giddy on breaking out the darker lipsticks and deep-toned blushes.  Looking through my blush collection, the majority of them are in the coral and pink family — great for spring/summer but I was lacking on shades that would be better for the colder months.

I’ve never owned anything from the brand theBalm but have heard very good reviews, in particular, about their blushes.  I came across CabanaBoy blush and thought it would be a perfect blush shade for the season!

First, can we just admire the packaging?  How cute is this, right?!  All of theBalm’s packaging has vintage-y, 50’s style imaging on them. I can see this being very appealing for those that like to collect products from brands, whether they are limited edition products or brands that have especially unique packaging.

The blush comes in a hard cardboard compact with a magnet to keep the product protected. On the top flap it comes with a little mirror and around the blush itself it says, “So many men, so little time.” LOL! Also, it comes with a matching CabanaBoy ‘sleeve’ that I do keep on the compact.

The colour of this blush is a dusty-rose with plum undertones. On my medium skintone, this shows up as a deep warm pinky mauve — very natural, but strong — I really like it and I don’t have anything like it in my collection.  The formula isn’t overly powdery, it’s quite silky actually and a few swirls of my blush brush picks up quite a bit of product with ease.

The lasting power of this blush on me I’d say stands a good 5-6 hours before fading.  Mind you, I’ve tried this while the weather is still quite warm and typically my blush will fade at the 5-6 hour mark. I anticipate that once I start wearing this on cooler days, it might last a little longer.

For my first theBalm product, I’m happy with this one!

I purchased this from Birchbox Canada for $23Cdn.

I give theBalm CabanaBoy blush: a STANDING OVATION

Have you tried this blush?  Like or dislike?  What are your fave products from theBalm and why?

September 2015 Birchbox (Canada)

It’s that time of month again!

Here’s a peek into the September Birchbox (Canada) I received (and mini-reviews on the products I’ve tried out!)

This box though!

September 2015 Birchbox (Canada).  This box though!

How cute is this box?  It made me smile when I saw the message!

And inside:

TOCCA Esfoliante da Corpo – Giulietta:  This is such a wonderful body scrub!  It’s a sugar-based formula that has just the right amount of grittiness to slough away dry skin without it being too harsh.  I’ve used this on my elbows and heels in the shower and it works awesome! The scent is slightly floral and fruity (pink tulips and green apple) and so fresh!  It’s rich in natural oils like olive, safflower and grapeseed oil that help to nourish the skin while getting rid of the dead dry stuff!

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Liquid Liner in Dark Gray:  I’m probably the worst person at applying liquid liner, but this pen makes things quite easy!  It’s got a long brush tip and the product comes out pigmented, smooth and doesn’t skip. It’s in dark gray – a good alternative however for something less intense than a really black liner. Staying power of this is, meh —  will come off with some face cleanser and warm water.

POP Beauty Portfolio Eyeshadow Trio in Sugar Plum:  These POP shadows are pretty amazing!  The shadows feel buttery and have minimal to zero fall-out!  The colours are perfect for brown eyes and a great colour palette for an easy, everyday eye look.  We’ve got a white, shimmery highlight shade; a medium-toned, satin-finish plum shade; and a satin-finish dark gray shade with purple undertone that pairs perfectly with the plum shadow.

100% Pure Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream:  This caffeine rich eye cream claims to de-puff, brighten dark circles, lessen lines and wrinkles and nourish the eye area with anti-aging nutrients. I have not tried this, but I will be passing this one on to my sister as she’s been looking for an eye cream to try out. All I can tell you… is that this stuff smells amazing!!  Like a sweet, coffee, caramel latte!

BioRepublic Skincare Pomegranate Crush Illuminating Sheet Mask:  If you know me, you know I love face masks!  This mask claims to brighten skin and even tone. It’s a sheet mask and apparently it’s biodegradable.  Like other sheet masks, you leave this on for 15-20 minutes, remove, and massage/tap the excess product left into your skin.  I’ve yet to try this one, but I’m sure it’s a gooder!

There you have it!  Pretty happy with my September Birchbox 🙂

And to top it off, I also received at 20% off voucher to use on any full-size product from the Birchbox website – woohoo!

And if you’re interested, I recently did a post on my thoughts on Birchbox service and products so far since I started my subscription seven months ago — if you missed it, click here and read away!
