Rosehip Seed Oil: the answer to awesome skin.

I thought I’d sit down and write about something that is probably my most valued, important and must-have product in all of my skincare – Rosehip seed oil.

Always on the search for the ‘best’ skincare, I kept coming across the benefits of rosehip oil for the skin. I liked everything I was reading about it – seemed to be quite the miracle product that pretty much all people can use.  Now, I have tried rosehip seed oil before with the Ole Henriksen oil, which really did improve my skin – which I would’ve expected for a $60 product.  But with more research, I realized that I could get myself a good quality rosehip seed oil product for about a sixth of that price.  With many, many options out there, I settled on this one ($12):

Pure rosehip seed oil is derived from the rosehip fruit which is found in Chile.  Rosehip oil is super rich in vitamins, essential fatty acids and antioxidants – including Vitamin C and A. Look for cold-pressed rosehip seed oil as in this form, the oil’s nutrient content is preserved. It has a bit of a nutty/fishy scent, but this is normal if you’re getting a good quality oil.  The colour should be a dark orange – amber shade.

Rosehip seed oil helps to reduce the appearance of scars and can correct UV sun damage on your skin (i.e. hyperpigmentation). It’s great for hydrating dry skin and can treat fine lines and wrinkles.

I have scalp psoriasis/eczema and using rosehip seed oil has helped to keep those patches moisturized and has even helped to lessen the irritation and discomfort. I actually have an all-natural oil recipe I’ll share with you in a future post that has helped my condition (might help some of you as well!)

Rosehip seed oil is a dry oil, meaning it is easily absorbed into the skin without leaving a greasy residue. If you’ve ever used pure jojoba oil, it’s texture and consistency is pretty much the same (I use 100% pure jojoba oil all over my body right after the shower while my skin is still damp – awesome moisturizer!).

I use rosehip seed oil as part of my nightly skincare routine. Although it’s a dry oil, I can still find this a bit too much for my face during the day. And anyway, I find night time is the best time to reap the full benefits of this, along with the rest of my products.

Typically, I’ll cleanse my face, tone and then apply a vitamin C serum. Once that sinks in for about a minute, I’ll take 3-4 drops of the rosehip seed oil into my palms, rub my hand together, and then gently pat my hands onto my entire face and neck. Once I’ve patted in for a good 30 seconds or so, I’ll then gently massage the oil into my face and neck to ensure it gets really absorbed into my skin.

I try to use the rosehip seed oil at least 3 times per week as part of my night time skincare routine. I wake up to plump, hydrated and brighter skin. Since using rosehip seed oil, on and off, for almost a year now I’ve noticed the texture of my skin improve and my skin become more even toned.  I have combination skin and this has actually helped to lessen the production of oil in my oily parts.

As I age, I’m almost positive that rosehip seed oil is going to be the one staple product I will never be without. It hits the bullseye when it comes to an all-in-one anti-aging product!
