To some of you reading this, this might be “just another NARS Sheer Glow Foundation review”. But to those who aren’t familiar with this foundation, you might find this helpful! In all honesty, I blame all of the YouTube beauty gurus that I follow – this foundation seems to always be on everyone’s list of favourites, so I had to see what the hype was all about myself!
I’ve tried many foundations – mostly drugstore and a few high-end. This NARS Sheer Glow Foundation is the most expensive foundation I have purchased to date ($58 Cdn for 30 ml). But with the 15% off VIB discount this past spring, I actually don’t feel that guilty about it!
What it is:
A glowing, satin-finish foundation with sheer and buildable coverage.
What it does:
This Sheer Glow Foundation enhances, without masking, your overall natural complexion. The weightless formula hydrates the skin while complexion brightening properties improve skin brightness, radiance, and texture, leaving skin with a luminous, sensual glow.
What else you need to know:
Suitable for normal, normal-to-dry, dry, and very dry skin types.
The shade I purchased was Stromboli (for medium skintones with olive undertones). I’d say this is a near to perfect match for me; a little on the light side but nothing that a bit of bronzer can’t fix. The NARS Sheer Glow foundation range has a very good selection of shades, from very light to very deep – this is also why a lot of people like this foundation because in terms of colour-matching, you’re bound to find a shade that works for you.
I’ve tried applying this with my fingers, a buffing brush and a beauty blender. The application with the beauty blender was the best for me – it left me with a light-medium coverage, very natural looking with a semi-matte finish. As far as “sheer” goes, I would disagree; this definitely provides a good amount of coverage. The formula is neither too thick or too thin – it’s easy to blend out and doesn’t set that quickly so you have time to work with it.
I found that as I wore this foundation throughout the day, it actually looked better – more natural and skin-like. They say this foundation is suitable for normal all the way to very dry skin types, however, me having combination skin, I didn’t find this to slip off my skin or anything like that. Set with a powder and I was fine – wear time a good 7 hours, I’d say (that’s typically with a primer underneath).
Overall, I like the natural, yet medium coverage this foundation gives me. For the price point, I can’t say that it’s totally worth it, but I have been reaching for it over a few of the more affordable foundations I typically use like the L’oreal True Match Lumi. I really like how it wears throughout the day – stays put, decent coverage, while looking natural.
I like this foundation, but I can’t say I love it (as much as everyone else seems to). I will definitely keep using it – nothing to complain about really. For that price, I intend on using up every single drop!
I give the NARS Sheer Glow foundation: a HIGH FIVE
