Makeup primers are one of those things that some can do without and some can’t live without. I fall in between. Majority of the time, I will use a primer before applying foundation — it does the job of creating a more even canvas for my makeup and helps to make it last longer.
Most primers I own are drugstore brand. Aside from trying out the Benefit PoreFessional primer (cult fave and I love it), I wanted to try out another high-end primer. With summer creeping in, I specifically wanted a mattifying primer. So I thought I’d give the Estée Lauder Matte Perfecting Primer a go:
This primer is oil-free, contains green tea and vitamin E and is good for combo/oily skin.
The texture of this primer is like that of a lotion — very lightweight and super easy to blend out. It absorbs quickly into my skin and it does in fact, leave my face with a matte finish. It sets quite quickly which is a good thing — within 20-30 seconds of applying it, I can go in with my foundation.
This primer works well with all the foundations I’ve tried with it so far. I like to use this particularly with foundations that have a slightly more dewy or luminous finish because it tends to make them last longer throughout the day, without compromising the finish.
As far as mattifying goes, I’d say this does keep the more oily parts of my face (t-zone) shine-free a bit longer compared to other primers — but nothing to brag about.
What I do like most about this primer is the texture and its ability to keep my makeup in place longer than most primers I own.
For $40 Cdn, I think this is a little bit on the pricey side. It’s a great primer, but I don’t think I would repurchase.
I give the Estee Lauder Matte Perfecting Primer: a HIGH FIVE
