Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Foundation

Seriously. As I was paying for this a few weeks ago, I thought “Do I REALLY need another foundation?” I barely have any more room on my ‘foundation tray’ on my dressing table to fit the foundations I already own. The Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Foundation is a newer addition to the drugstore Rimmel display and for $6.99 Cdn on sale, no better time than now to buy and try out a new foundation!

It’s all for YOU, Pretties!! (and for me, hee hee!)

According to the Rimmel website, the foundation is described as follows:

Instant perfect coverage that feels extra comfortable and lasts all day

– Blends flawlessly, seamlessly, instantly and easily into the skin
– Sweat, heat, humidity and transfer proof for up to 25 hours

Available in 7 shades.

Let’s start with the cons: I only really have one — that being this doesn’t come in more than 7 shades! Not sure, but I noticed that with most Rimmel foundation/BB cream products, there’s not a very wide selection of shades. That’s really too bad because I think if they expanded their colour selection, more people would probably buy (and like) some of their formulas. I went for the darkest shade on my drugstore display which was 303 True Nude. This happens to be the darkest shade in the collection — I am a medium skintone with yellow undertones, so for all you deeper skinned Pretties, unfortunately there aren’t any choices for you.

Now the pros: Firstly, it comes in a hearty glass container with a pump applicator! Why are not all foundations created with a pump applicator? It’s the best thing — no spill, no mess, hygienic, controls how much you use!

This has a medium consistency, meaning not too thin and not too thick. Very easy to blend on the skin. I use my Sonia Kashuk No.130 buffing brush to buff this in — about 1 and a half pumps is enough to give me a medium coverage. This claims to be a full coverage foundation — I completely agree with that — another 1/2 pump of the stuff and I could have a full-coverage face goin’ on!

This leaves me with a medium, matte, yet natural finish.

In spite of the fact that this is a full coverage formula, this is very easy to blend and does feel really comfortable on my skin. After applying I really like the coverage it gives at evening out my skintone without looking heavy. I am attributing the ability for this to have good coverage power while feeling light on the skin to the “serum” that’s in the foundation.

Now, I’ve tried wearing this foundation on top of primer and I have to say the staying power is definitely there! I think this might be the one foundation in my collection that really stands up to it’s claims of “25hr”!  Not that I have ever or ever will wear ANY makeup on my face for more than 25 hours… but you get it…. it’s long-wearing, long-lasting, doesn’t budge or smudge, and impressively, keeps it’s colour on my face all day. I come home after an 8-hour day and the mirror shows me that my base still looks great 🙂

The one thing I found was that when I tried this with a primer like the Benefit POREfessional or the NYX Pore Filler  (silicone-based) it worked very well to help provide a smooth canvas for this foundation. I tried this with the Maybelline Master Prime Blur + Illuminate primer and it was a NO-NO. I think any primer that is hydrating/lotion texture (the Maybelline) is not the best primer for underneath the Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr foundation — I’m thinking it might be because the formulation of the foundation is already quite hydrating, that with the Maybelline primer it left my face looking quite shiny and feeling a bit tacky all day long.

Overall, this is a great foundation. I don’t really feel the need to touch up with setting powder until maybe 8 hours of wear. I think the true test however will be when the weather gets warmer — that’s when I’ll know for sure if the claims of being “sweat-, heat- and humidity-proof” are true!

I would definitely repurchase this foundation.

I give the Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Foundation: a STANDING OVATION

Have you tried this foundation?  What do you think — like or dislike?  Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks for reading!

  1. Great review. I’ve never tried this foundation but I’m keen to try it now if I can find it in my shade. x

  2. I was initially disappointed when I saw Rimmel’s previous incarnation of Lasting Finish was discontinued as it’s daily use for me, and I do have a backup… but I am really, really looking forward to trying this one!
