L’oreal Miss Manga Mascara

Hey Pretties!

I finally caved and bought the L’oreal Miss Manga mascara that every beauty guru and their dog have been talking about. It’s been on the market for a while and for the most part I’ve heard very good reviews about this mascara. I found this on sale for $6.99 Cdn at SDM and figured it was a decent price to pay to finally try this out.

For those of you who’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I am probably the most discerning with mascara. It’s probably the one makeup item I can’t go without using on a daily basis and am quite picky on what I use. I had really high expectations for Miss Manga considering all the great reviews I’ve come across.

Honestly, I can only give it a “Meh.”

First off, let’s talk about the brush. This is designed with a “360 degree Flexor Brush” — it essentially bends from side to side and all the way around in a circle. You see that little groove part in the wand? That’s the bendy part.

I found this design to be a little weird and honestly a bit strange to handle. As I started applying my first coat to my top lashes, the bend in the brush almost made the brush “stick” for a second on my lashes before pulling it up. It felt a little flimsy and I felt like as I applied more coats, it just continued to feel awkward to apply.

The brush itself is also a strange thing — it’s shaped like a cone (typical of some brush heads) but it has a mix of short and long soft bristles that seem to pick up the formula in a messy sort of way. As a result, I found that I ended up with some clumps, not a lot, but it took about 2-3 coats to comb my lashes out with the brush to get a more even coverage.

Lastly, one last complaint (if I’m being completely honest here):  the actual design of the tube is not my favourite. It’s a thicker tube, with one side being flat, while the rest of the tube is rounded. I find that I have to make sure to hold the wand with my thumb on the flat side before applying the mascara, otherwise it seems to slip and feel awkward in my fingers. Am I just being to critical here? I don’t think so. If you can’t hold the wand comfortably right of the hop, how the heck are you supposed to apply the mascara properly, right?

What I do like about this mascara is that it does give volume and length to my lashes. However, I don’t find that it holds any curl in my lashes throughout the day — a big thums down for me because of this. I just don’t like the way this is sort of awkward to handle when I apply the mascara — I have many many other mascaras that deliver volume and length that are also comfortable to hold and handle when using; those are probably the ones I’ll continue to reach for — not this.

I think this might be the first L’oreal mascara I was disappointed with — most L’oreal mascaras are awesome. By all means though, try this for yourself — you might love it, as others do!  For me, it just didn’t work out all that great. I will probably continue to use it (hate to waste products) but it won’t be the first one I reach for everyday.

I give the L’oreal Miss Manga Mascara: a THUMBS DOWN

Have you tried this mascara?  Like or dislike?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks for reading!

  1. I bought it and think the formula is really nice for the pricing. It’s not a curling mascara, I agree, but it really emphasizes the lashes and give them a bold effect. I’m new to drugstore mascaras though, so I cannot compare to anything else within the same price range. Of course more fashionable brands are superior, but you can’t tell if it’s fair or not to make comparisons within so different price ranges…

  2. That’s a really interesting post. I have this stashed away waiting to be used… (I’m such a hoarder. If something goes on sale or it’s at an introductory price, I’ll give in…) I’m hoping this works well for me when I finally get around to using it.

This was really nice to read. 🙂 I really like your honesty and you shouldn’t feel concerned about picking apart the product. 🙂 you invested in the product so you can decide what and how much you like it. 🙂 I look forward to reading more posts. 🙂

    • I’m the same way with makeup… something goes on sale that I really like using, I’ll buy a few back up! Or just something new to try!

Thanks for the read and the comment! Oh yes, I’m always for telling the truth about how I feel about products… it can get quite expensive and the worst thing is standing in front of a million products, skincare, makeup… and not knowing what to buy! If I don’t like something I’ll say so! But of course, to each his own… something that may not work for me, might be awesome for someone else!

      Thanks again 🙂
