Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation and Powder

Hi Pretties!

The Dream Wonder Fluid Touch foundation and powder have been on the Canadian drugstore market since summer this year. After reading a few reviews on the products I thought I’d give them both a try. On the beauty blogger grapevine, I’ve heard that this foundation is a dupe for a Giorgio Armani foundation and the powder is a close dupe for the MAC Mineralize Skin Finish powders – which has been my holy grail finishing powder for years! For about a third of the cost, I thought if this powder can work as well for me as my MAC, this might be the best deal of my lifetime.

Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Liquid Foundation (in 85 Sun Beige)

Maybelline claims that this foundation will “fuse” with your skin, giving a very skin-like, natural and undetectable finish, yet setting to a flawless, medium to full coverage. My short answer to this claim is YES! I agree!

I was a bit hesitant to try this out at first because of its’ formula – super super liquidy, almost water-like. It is recommended for those with normal skin, even dry types, because of the consistency. However, to my surprise, this works really well on my combination skin. Yes, I do have to touch up with powder or use a blotting paper to de-shine after about 5 hours of wear, but this foundation sits very nicely on my skin, giving me that natural, yet flawless coverage. I can still see my skin underneath – age spots, a few scars – but personally I don’t mind that. For everyday, I just like my foundation to even out my skin tone; not make me look like a doll — and this does just that.

The shade selection is pretty good – over 12 I think. The shade that I have, 85 Sun Beige, is a very good match for my colouring — it’s got a bit of yellow in it, that is sometimes tough to find in a drugstore foundation. This foundation doesn’t seem to oxidize either – bonus!

I have tried applying this with my Real Techniques buffing brush and the Real Techniques Miracle sponge. Both give me awesome coverage. With the brush, I find it gives a very light finish (but buildable if I use more product), but still evens out my skin. With the sponge, it gives me a bit of a more medium coverage.

I know it might not be considered hygienic, but I shake up the bottle really well first then take whatever is on the pipette and dab it onto my face. I found that waiting for the pipette to drop the liquid onto my hand takes forever and so little is dispersed!

I like this foundation. I can anticipate liking this even more during these cooler months because of the formula (as my skin tends to get drier in the fall/winter).

I would definitely consider repurchasing this foundation.

I purchased this on sale from Shoppers Drug Mart for $6.99 Cdn.

I give the Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Liquid Foundation: a HIGH FIVE

Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder in 70 Natural Beige

When I decided on 85 Sun Beige for my Dream Wonder foundation, I looked at the Dream Wonder powders and didn’t find a matching 85 shade. The selection that SDM had for powders was pretty good, but some of the foundations didn’t have their corresponding powders. After some careful eyeing and swatching of testers I thought 70 Natural Beige was the best match for me. Got home, tried it on and pretty decent colour match.

Overall, I’d say this is a good powder. It does sort of melt into the skin, without any trace of powdery-ness or cakey-ness. Definitely de-shines and leaves a very natural, smoothed out finish to the skin. I’ve tried this over top my foundation to set it and also over more bare skin (i.e. light application of BB cream with some concealer) and it still gives a nice, non-powdery finish.

I wouldn’t say this is a complete dupe for the MAC Mineralize Skin Finish powder (my absolute fave), but it’s not bad. To apply, I usually use a big fluffy face brush or a kabuki brush.

I would consider repurchasing this powder (if I’m not feeling like spending the $30 for my MAC)! Not as great as MAC, but good enough.
