On The Rotation: Blushes

Hey Pretties!

My second instalment of On The Rotation is on my most reached for blushes of recent weeks/months. If you want to read my Lip Blam rotation click HERE!

My most used blushes lately: e.l.f. powder blush in Mellow Mauve; e.l.f. powder blush in Blushing Rose; The Body Shop blush in Macaroon; NYX blush in Pinched; and Physician's Formula Mood Booster and Happy Glow blush in Warm

I wouldn’t say I have a huge blush collection, but I think I’ve got a good variety of colours that range from bright, fresh shades (ideal for spring and summer) and warmer, comfort shades (ideal for fall and winter). Second to mascara, I must always have at least a hint of blush on. Blush just instantly makes a face look more alive and fresh!

Here is a quick review of some of the blushes I’ve been reaching for on the regular:

Physician’s Formula Happy Booster Glow and Mood Boosting Blush – Warm

Recently did a review on this blush HERE. This is such a nice, natural, silky and smooth formula for a blush. The variety of shades in this blush mix to a beautiful flush of natural pink. You can’t go wrong with this one — takes a bit of time to build up, but sometimes it’s nice to have control over a blush so you don’t risk looking like a clown upon first brush swipe!! Leaves a nice sheen-y glow to the cheeks without looking like a disco ball.

The Body Shop Blush – Macaroon

I think this actually might be the FIRST ever blush that I will ever finish! That just goes to show how much this blush is loved! The formula of the TBS blushes are great – easy to blend out and pigmented. I own 2 TBS blushes, but this shade in Macaroon was my most used this summer.

My photo above looks like an intense orangey-pink colour, however in “real life” it’s a very light, sheer, coral-peachy-toned blush that enhanced my medium skintone. Very easy colour to wear, great for everyday.

NYX Blush – Pinched

This is a very recent purchase and I’ve probably been reaching for this one most in the the last few weeks! NYX Pinched is an awesome deep pink-peach shade that is so very easy to wear — I can see this complimenting many different skintones from light to dark! Read HERE for a more in-depth review on this blush! (plus my thoughts on a NYX Butter Gloss!)

e.l.f. Blush – Blushing Rose

With the cooler, autumn weather sneaking its way towards me – agh! – on slightly cloudy days, I’m always in the mood to reach for this warm-toned blush. I know it doesn’t look like I’ve even touched this blush — that’s because I reserve this for the autumn/winter seasons only.  But I’ve found myself wearing this on my cheeks a bit more now that the weather is cooling off. And a little bit goes a long way (e.l.f. blushes are seriously amazing).

This is a lovely, deep rose colour that compliments my skintone and makes me feel sorta sophisticated when it’s on my cheeks. It matches well with richer colours — olives, greys, black, mustard — colours I tend to gravitate towards in the autumn/winter in terms of clothing choices. I like to pair this shade with either just lip balm or a nude lip — let the cheeks speak for themselves!

I bought this online a few years ago and I think I got it on sale for $1.50 USD. Deal of my life.

e.l.f. Blush – Mellow Mauve

At first swatch, I didn’t think this would actually show on my skin — it comes off as a very dusty, muted pink, mauve colour. But this blush is actually one of the few that I have that actually looks closest to my own natural flush. It takes some building up on the powder brush to get the right amount of colour, but once I’ve got the right amount I really like the shade on my skintone.

On someone lighter-toned, this would look very soft and pretty; on a darker skintone, it may take quite some time to build it up for a noticeable wash. I do thing that this shade is pretty universal — mauve seems to be a colour that can be easily worn by many skintones. I can feel myself reaching for this one a lot this autumn and winter, especially if I feel like sporting a deeper, bolder lip colour. But it’s also a good shade for everyday, all-year-round.

Swatches starting from my wrist: Physician's Formula, The Body Shop, NYX and e.l.f. (the last two)
