Rimmel Stay Matte Primer

Hey Pretties!

I had seen the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer on the drugstore display for quite some time and was curious to try it out. I didn’t do much research or read/watched reviews on this primer so I was going in with no bias. In the past, I thought primers were an unnecessary step in a makeup routine, however, finding the right formula makes application of foundation/tinted moisturizer so much more flawless.

The Rimmel Stay Matte Primer is very different from the primers I’ve been used to, in that the formula is not silicone-y; it’s more of a lotion consistency. It’s pretty lightweight for the most part — once I blend this into my skin, it doesn’t feel THAT heavy or thick on, but on the other hand, it also doesn’t feel as light as more silicone-based primers. It does give the appearance of mattified skin and somewhat reduces the look of my pores.

I can’t say this actually keeps my face matte for a serious amount of time, however I can say that it definitely does a good job of keeping my makeup in place.

I think those with oilier skin types may like the performance of this primer. Those with drier skin types may appreicate the lotion texture, however, mattifying may not be top priority for a dry-skinned gal.

I don’t dislike this primer but I also don’t love it — I think I’m partial to the more light-soft-powdery-velvet feeling of a silicone-based primer than this lotiony one. I will continue to use this so as not to waste the product or maybe I’ll hand it off to one of my friends — someone might enjoy this more than I do!

Although the price point of this primer is reasonable — $9.99 Cdn — for someone like me who likes to use primer every time I wear foundation, I will most likely invest in something that I know I will use and enjoy even if it takes a bigger bite out of my wallet, such as Benefit’s POREfessional ($36 Cdn) or The Body Shop InstaBlur primer (around $20 Cdn). I give the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer: a SHOULDER SHRUG

Have you tried this primer?  Like or dislike?

Thanks again for reading!
