On The Rotation: Lip Balms

Hi Pretties!

One beauty staple I cannot ever live without is lip balm. I must always have lip balm at arm’s length! It’s the first thing I put on my face when getting ready in the morning and the last thing I put on before hitting the pillow at night. I can’t stand the look and feel of dry, chapped, nasty lips!!

I’ve had three lip balms on rotation over the last many months:  Nuxe Rêve de Miel, Blistex Daily Conditioning Treatment and Smith’s Strawberry Lip Balm.

What I like about these three lip balms is that they cover all low and high price points and they are all different (in formula), yet very effective at keeping dry, chap lips far, far away!

Blistex Daily Conditioning Treatment – around $3 Cdn

This is the cheapest of the bunch and works like a charm. I’ve repurchased this particular lip balm over and over again — always dependable. This one has a bit of medicinal smell and a slight tingle to the lips, but nothing overly unpleasent. The formula is one that is like Vaseline, but thicker, so it’s got a bit more “grab” while it’s on the lip, without it feeling heavy or sticky. I’ve got one of these in my makeup bag and an extra at work at all times. Wearability-wise, this balm lasts a good while on my lips, while absorbing into them and keeping chap lips away. And when I’ve got a bout of dry lips, this heals that problem up in a jiffy.

I give the Blistex Daily Conditioning Treatment: a STANDING OVATION

Smith’s Strawberry Lip Balm – around $8 Cdn

This is my “treat” lip balm. With the subtle scent and taste of strawberries (yum!) this is always a pleasure to put on. This formula is probably the closest to the texture of Vaseline, yet still a bit thicker. Although it’s a light pink colour, I don’t find that it really leaves any colour on my lips at all — which is a good thing, if I ever layer lipstick over it. This one glides on very easy and absorbs well, leaving my lips feeling hydrated and smooth. I tehd to use this on days when my lips aren’t too crazy dry — it gives just enough of a layer of moisture to keep my lips feeling happy. The tin packaging is a nice touch and I just love the apothecary/vintage look of the label.

I give the Rosebud Salve Strawberry Lip Balm: a STANDING OVATION

Nuxe Rêve de Miel – $17 Cdn

For my faithful followers, you know soooo bad how much I am in love with this lip balm. At $17, I thought, no way would I pay that much for a tiny little jar of lip balm.

This is my second jar.

I’ve done a full review on this little lip saver (actually, it was my first ever Try Me Pretty blog post!) — if you want to read more in depth, click HERE

In short, I have nothing bad to say about the Nuxe. The formula is much different from any other lip balm I’ve tried or owned — it’s got almost a matte, creamery-honey-like texture and is quite thick. A pretty heavy-duty moisturizer for your lips, but once you put it on, it melts like a dream and absorbs nicely into the lips. This is the one I reach for probably the most nowadays. When I get really chap lips and I put this on, I swear, within an hour my lips feel soothed, smooth and hydrated. I like this particulary at night before bed — I put a coat of this on and in the morning, I can still feel some of the product on my lips, not to mention they are always so soft!

I give the Nuxe Rêve de Miel: a STANDING OVATION

So there you have it — my lip balm rotation! Sometimes the most unsuspecting (boring?) beauty product can be the most important and loved!!

And remember — check out my “Rating System” in the menu bar above to see what ‘Standing Ovation’ and other ratings really mean to me!!

Have you tried any of these lip balms?  Like or dislike?  What’s your favourite(s)?  I’d love to hear your comments!!

Thanks for stopping in Pretties!
