Yup, I gone and done it — my first prestige lipstick purchase from Sephora is NARS sheer lipstick in the shade Dolce Vita. At first the price point really freaked me out – $30 Cdn. I cringed at the thought of this price for ONE lipstick — I could use that $30 to fill my gas tank up from empty to full. But I couldn’t wait any longer; I’ve been in Sephora 3 times before this trip oohing and aahing over it, so I just surrendered and said, “what the heck!”
Thanks to my friend Jenn (let’s call her The Enabler), she introduced me to NARS Dolce Vita. As most of you know, I’ve got an enormous lippie collection and 99% of it is drugstore brand (aside from the one lonely MAC lipstick I own).
“Go ahead,” Jenn said, “Try it.”
I was hooked.
The difference in texture, smell, and overall feel of the NARS on my lips was nothing I had ever experienced with any drugstore lipstick. Don’t get me wrong, there are AWESOME drugstore lip products… but seriously, there was something magical when I put on the NARS.
First off, the packaging is just gorgeous. Sometimes I just stare at it. Weirdo, I know. It’s black and has a matte, semi-velvety feel to it… so nice. The size of the tube is smaller than your standard lipstick tube; very compact and cute. The white NARS logo wrapped around the cap adds a classy look.
The shade Dolce Vita is hands down my No. 1 MLBB. Trust me, I’ve looked far and wide, and though I’ve found some that have been close, this has to be the best by far. Clinique has a lipstick, shade Tenderheart, that I used to wear as my MLBB yeeeears ago (I wonder if that might still work for me. Hmmm.)
Dolce Vita is a dusty muted rose, with just the right amount of pink to enhance the pink in my lips and just the right amount of brown to mute down the pink giving me the perfect pinky-nude lip.
The NARS lipstick seems to be fragrance-free (a plus). The texture of this on the lips is so extremely soft, sheer and smooth to apply — it glides on so beautifully. The colour pay-off is sheer, but definitely buildable. The wear-time of this lipstick is not long-wearing at all, but once worn off, my lips do not feel dry in the slightest. I don’t really mind that much that it wears off quickly — gives me a chance to pull it out, admire the beauty that it is and re-apply!
I love this lipstick. I definitely do not regret the price I paid for it. I’m just afraid that I will be wearing this so often every day that I’ll have to run out to re-stock sooner than I might like to! But this really does prove that sometimes… you do get what you pay for.
And guess what? I just found out that NARS makes the shade Dolce Vita in a matte lip crayon and a lip gloss too. Oh dear.
I give the NARS Sheer Lipstick in Dolce Vita: a STANDING OVATION
