I’ve recently purchased the L’oreal Infallible 8hr le gloss lip glosses and I must say it’s probably one of my most favourite purchases in the last little while. I know these have been on the market for some time but a long-wearing lipgloss was something new to me. I think most lip glosses by nature are not meant to stay on for a long time, unless they’re formulated that way. At $6.99 Cdn on sale at my local SDM I figured I’d try these out — and I always here good things about the L’oreal Infallible line.
On the L’oreal Paris Canada website it states:
Introducing the very first longwearing lipgloss in only one step! No touch-ups. No top coats. No Feathering. No Fading. Hydrating formula keeps lips soft, smooth, colorful and glossy for six shining hours Patented Petit Couer applicator contours lips precisely, giving you a smooth, even, flawless finish every time. Infallible™ Never Fail Lipgloss is available in a range of 12 sheer, luminous shades that stay true without changing, fading or dulling. Use it together with Infallible™ Never Fail Makeup for a perfectly polished, long-lasting look. 12 shades.
The colours that I chose were 815 Barely Nude and 705 Sangria. They don’t have a huge selection of colours (12) but a good enough range that I think you’d be able to find at least one that you like — a few pinks, nudes, and deep reds/browns.
First off, I would agree that this lip gloss does have staying power. Eight hours though? Not for me anyway. I’ve worn this everyday at work for the past 4 days and through eating and chatting, by lunch time the “glossy” part has worn off, however, the colour of the gloss leaves my lips in its’ subtle shade. On average, on me, I’d say I feel like after about 4-5 hours of wear is when I feel like it needs a good re-application. Which is pretty impressive, in my books! And these smell like vanilla, mmm. No lingering flavour or taste on my lips, however, which is what I prefer.
The one thing that is a bit off-putting to some, might be the stickiness of this lipgloss. I’m not sure if it’s because of the long-wearing formulation, but this definitely is a sticky gloss. And I do find that once it’s wearing off on my lips, my lips are left with sort of a sticky feeling to them. Once worn off, these glosses do not leave my lips dry. Similarly, they don’t really leave my lips feeling that hydrated either. The residual “tacky” feeling left on my lips is a little weird, but I don’t really mind — the performance and colour pay-off of these glosses outweigh that downfall for me.
I completely lucked out with the 815 Barely Nude shade — I think it might be my perfect nude!! I’ve been on the hunt for ages for a nude lip colour that doesn’t give me “dead lips” you know what I mean — most that I’ve tried just leave my lips looking grey or like I’ve slapped on a concealer on them. Not pretty. This shade though, has a nice peachy undertone to it that evens out my lip tone and brightens it up to a natural, nude-y shade. Love.
The Sangria shade is on the opposite side of the spectrum — a deep cherry shade that enhances the tone of my lips deepening my natural lip tone just enough to make my lips look darker, but still in a natural way. This one reminds me a bit of Black Honey by Clinique — a lip gloss/stick that is blood red in its’ form but when put on any lip tone, it simply enhances and deepens the natural colour, without leaving a dark, red, gothy looking lip.
Have you ever seen the movie ‘Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants’? It’s a movie about four girls who find a pair of blue jeans that “magically” seem to fit each and every one of them perfectly, despite their different body shapes. Well, Sangria is THAT pair of jeans for the lips of me and three of my girlfriends! One evening, I got the ladies to try Sangria and no word of a lie, it looked so good on each one! The natural tone of each of our four pairs of lips vary from light to dark and Sangria “magically” looked fantastic on all of us in its’ own way! Based on that, I suspect that Sangria might look great on every skin/lip tone.
If you can get over the stickiness of this gloss and the little bit of tackiness it leaves once worn off, I would definitely recommend it. For performance, colour saturation, and ease of application these have already made a permanent home in my make-up bag!
I give the L’oreal Infallible 8hr le gloss lipglosses: a HIGH FIVE
Have you tried these glosses? Like or dislike? Any recommendations for other long-wearing lip products?
