Monthly Favourites: June

Hey Pretties!

I can’t believe how quickly June has come and gone! Here are a few of my favourite and most used products for skin, face, body and hair for the month of June. Also, a random, non-beauty favourite is thrown in there too!

June Favourites: L'oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream; Tea Tree Oil by Life Brand; Prairie Naturals Big Sky Tea Tree Medicinal Shampoo; and Japanese Cherry Blossom Body Spray by Bath and Body Works

June Favourites: L’oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream; Tea Tree Oil by Life Brand; Prairie Naturals Big Sky Tea Tree Medicinal Shampoo; and Japanese Cherry Blossom Body Spray by Bath and Body Works

SKIN:  100% Tea Tree Oil by Life Brand

This little wonder of an oil has saved my face from having little breakouts turn into big, monster pimples — those suckers didn’t stand a chance! Not sure if it was the rise in temperature, which meant more prone to sweat on the face, which meant more prone to breakouts. Or if it was due to me trying out a lot of new skincare products that did. Or maybe a combination of both. Whatever the cause, a few dabs of this on my breakouts each night seemed to help my pimples dry up really quickly. I’ve tried other over the counter zit cream and nothing seems to work better and faster than good ol’ 100% tea tree oil.

FACE:  L’oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream in 814 Medium

I’ve raved about this BB cream before — has to be my favourite BB and I’ve tried a bunch. I always come back to this when I’m not sure what base I want to wear. It’s easy, foolproof, provides good coverage and wears well throughout the day. During the warmer days in June, I’ll reach for this because it slightly mattifies my skin which score points for keeping the summer face oilies at bay. BODY:  Japanese Cherry Blossom Body Spray by Bath and Body Works

This has to be one of my favourite scents from Bath and Body Works. Perfect for summertime, it’s a fresh, feminine and light scent which has notes of asian pear, apple, plum, Japanese cherry blossom, rose, lily, mimosa, vanilla, amber, musk, cedarwood and sandalwood. Not to fruity, not to flowery, not too musky — a perfect balance of all those smells wrapped into this little bottle! My kind of scent.

HAIR:  Big Sky Tea Tree Medicinal Shampoo by Prairie Naturals

Hotter weather aggravates my scalp eczema and this shampoo helps to soothe the itch and flare ups. It doesn’t cure it by any means, but it helps to keep my scalp feeling a bit more calm. Tea tree oil to the rescue again!! This is actually my second bottle of this and I use this every other day — if I use it every day, it tends to dry my scalp and hair out a bit too much. Not only does it calm my scalp, it helps to keep my hair less oily. I reach for this shampoo all year round, but especially in the summer months and winter months, when severe heat and severe cold can cause my condition to worsen.

RANDOM FAVOURITE FOR JUNE:  Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Countertop Spray in Basil Scent

Mrs. Meyer's Counter Top Spray in Basil scent

Mrs. Meyer’s Counter Top Spray in Basil scent

My favourite part of cleaning is cleaning with stuff that’s good for the environment and smells good. This hits both criteria! This spray has “naturally derived ingredients and essential oils”. The smell is sooooooo good — fresh, light and “green”. I’ve been using this on our kitchen countertops, stove top, dining table, coffee table…. heck, just about anything I can spray it on, I have! I know this also comes in a lemon verbena scent and a lavender scent, those sound yummy for the senses too, but this basil one is totally hitting the mark for me right now! The scent actually lingers for a few hours after spraying… love!

So that’s it! My June favourites!

Thanks for stopping by, Pretties and I hope you’ve enjoyed your June and continue to enjoy the rest of the summer!

Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo

Hi Pretties!

Today I want to share something that might be a bit on the boring side, but I just like it so much that some of you might find it worthwhile to try out:

Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo

Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo

The product descripion on the Neutrogena website as follows:

Anti-Residue Shampoo is a shampoo treatment that instantly removes up to 90% of dulling residue caused by shampoos, conditioners and styling products.

It cleans hair thoroughly and easily rinses away. Use it once a week, then go back to your favorite shampoo. You’ll find that it works better than ever. Works with all hair types.

Hair is clean and residue-free.

Non-irritating
Clean rinsing
Available in 6 oz. and 12 oz.

I’ve been using this shampoo for many years now. I think this may be my third bottle so far. This shampoo IS really great for washing away build-up from other haircare products, such as other shampoos, hairsprays, cream conditioners, mousse, etc. I try to remember to use it once a week, but sometimes I don’t. And when I finally remember to… boy what a difference it makes in how my hair and scalp feel afterwards!

It has a minty, eucalyptus smell — very clean and invigorating on the head and for the senses. I’ve read some reviews that some people don’t like the smell but I really, really like it. It sort of reminds me of one of my other favorite shampoo/conditioner combos by L’oreal… a sulphate-free product with rosemary and mint scent — mmmm!

The only drawback I find is that when I rinse it out, it leaves my hair a bit tangly and “rough” feeling. However, once I apply my conditioner, I have no issues with rinsing. In fact, it actually feels like the conditioner is working better for me after using the shampoo.

The next day when I wash my hair with my regular shampoo and conditioner, I do notice a difference on how it performs and how my hair feels afterwards — it’s like using a brand new shampoo, if you know what I mean.

Previous bottles of this shampoo have lasted me a very long time — I’d estimate at least a good 10-12 months or so before I finish it (thanks to only using once per week). A little goes a long way.

If you’re looking for a good, all-around clarifying shampoo to use once a week, I would definitely recommend the Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo. I believe this retails for around $10 on average at my local drugstore.

I give the Neutrogena Anti-Residue Shampoo: a STANDING OVATION

Have you tried this shampoo? Like or dislike? Any suggestions for another good clarifying shampoo treatment?

Thanks for tuning in Pretties!!

Product Empties #4

Hi Pretties!

It’s time to look through my trashcan/recycling bin again! Here are a few short reviews on some of the products I’ve emptied out!

Product Empties!: Herbal Essences Naked Shampoo and Conditioner; Tresemme Hairspray; got2be Cashmere Hairspray; Olive Shower gel by The Body Shop; Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm

Tresemmé Hairspray – Firm Control 3

Tresemme Hairspray - Firm Control 3

Tresemme Hairspray – Firm Control 3

This hairspray has to be one of my favourites. It’s got a really fine mist that sprays lightly and evenly on my hair. The holding power of this is light to medium; I know Tresemme makes different “holds” for those who want something lighter or stronger. This formula seems to work great for me in terms of keeping little pesky flyaways at bay and keeping the general shape of my hairstyle in place. It does not feel hard or crunchy; I think I’d have to use a lot of it to get it to feel that way. It’s got a scent, nothing overpowering or offensive, just your typical, light hairspray scent.

göt2b Smooth Operator with Cashmere Smoothing Hairspray

got2be Cashmere Hairspray

got2be Smooth Operator with Cashmere Hairspray

Another hairspray empty? No, I’m no hairspray freak, but this one has a stronger hold than the Tresemme, so for days where I really want my hair to stay put, this is the one I reach for. I’ve bought this one a few times — love the scent, sort of a soft, sweet candy smell. The holding power of this is pretty amazing, but it does tend to leave my hair a tad crunchy feeling.

A big thumbs down for me though for this product is the nozzle — for some reason, every single can I’ve purchased and used, the nozzle sprays the hairspray out terribly! It’s unevenly dispersed — I get random spray drops on my nose, on my eyelashes, in my eyeballs, etc. I’ve tried running the nozzle under warm water a few times to clear it out, but nothing works. I think the nozzle is just faulty, seeing is I’ve experienced this more than a couple times with previous cans.

Herbal Essences Naked 0% Parabens – Volumizing formula

Herbal Essences Naked 0% Parabens Volumizing Shampoo and Conditoner

Herbal Essences Naked 0% Parabens Volumizing Shampoo and Conditoner

Meh. Nothing too special about this combo, not for me anyway. Unfortunately, I didn’t experience any orgasmic hair-washing moments like those women in the Herbal Essences commercials. Honestly, I had run out of shampoo and conditioner one day and needed something quick and cheap – each of these bottles on sale for $2.99… ok! Plus, an opportunity to review a new product… ok again!

They are scented with white grapefruit and mint extracts — very fresh, zesty smell which I quite like. The plus about these products are that they are paraben-free, which is the marketing behind this line of Herbal Essence. If you’re looking for an affordable, “good-for-you” products, then I say give these a go.

Volumizing? I don’t really think it did much for me. But for an affordable and decent duo, I would re-purchase.

The Body Shop Olive Shower Gel

The Body Shop Olive Shower Gel

The Body Shop Olive Shower Gel

I really enjoyed using this shower gel. The smell is hard to describe — I wouldn’t say it smells like olives, but it does have a very organic, fresh scent. Something about the scent is very comforting. This is a soap free cleanser made with Community Fair Trade cold-pressed olive oil from Italy.

As with most Body Shop shower gel/creams I’ve tried, this one is very moisturizing. And despite the fact that it’s soap-free, it doesn’t take a whole lot to get a good lather going on a loofah — a good thing because that made this 250 ml bottle last me at least a month. I’ve also got the Olive body butter and the smell is identical and I feel that this can be worn all year long.

Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm

Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm

Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm

Probably my favourite lip balm treatment of all time. This $17 glass container has lasted me a solid 4 1/2 months with every day use. If I want something more luxurious on my lips instead of my Blistex, this is what I reach for! (Read my review about it HERE!) And I already have a new Nuxe on the go!
