Debut Beauty Review!: Rêve de Miel Lip Balm by Nuxe Paris

Hello Pretties!

Welcome to my new beauty blog, Try Me Pretty. I’ve been meaning to start this exciting website for months and months and I have finally found the time and planned my way into two of my obsessions:  blogging and beauty. And what better way to kill two birds with one stone and do them both! I’m so glad you’ve taken the time to sit and read — I really hope you will enjoy the products I review and maybe even crush some of that curiousity you’ve been having for some products out there.

Head over to the menu bar above to read my About page — here you will get an idea of who I am, why I started this blog and what I intend to accomplish with it. Also, read my Rating System — here you will find what I think of a certain product, in the shortest terms. And last but not least, please check out the Beauty Blogs I Adore page — these are currently the beauty blogs that I have bookmarked in my handy-dandy personal web-perusing menu and they are the blogs that I frequently go to for trustworthy, honest and fun reviews (many of the products I have tried and either liked or loved are thanks to those lovely ladies in those blogs!)

Now, let’s get on with the fun part… my first ever beauty product review! I’ve chosen a staple in every woman’s (and man’s, perhaps!) beauty wardrobe — a good old trusty lip balm. In particular, the one I’ve been loving and using for the past month is the Rêve de Miel lip balm by Nuxe Paris:

First off, this was definitely a splurge — at $17 Cdn (at Shoppers Drug Mart) I was a teeny bit jittery at the mere thought of spending that much on a standard sized tub of lip balm, but I calmed my jitters with a little talk to myself in my head: “You have a gift card and you’ve heard very awesome things about this lip balm. Just buy it. You won’t regret it”. The voice convinced me! And the voice was completely right.

For anyone who lives in harsh winters like I do… and by harsh I mean like -45 degrees celsius harsh… one of the first things on my face that this kind of weather absolutely loves to take a toll on are my lips. Now, there are many many lip balms out there that will do the job fine of keeping cracked, peel-y lips at bay — believe me, I’m one of those people who have some form of lip balm or Chapstick in my everywhere stash — in my purse, in my make-up bag, in my desk drawer at work, ON my desk at work, in my jacket pocket… yes, Pretties, you know what I mean and you know who YOU are too, you lip balm hoarders! For me the lip balm obsession will never escape me, but the Rêve de Miel lip balm has been my GO-TO lip balm all month (winter) long.

The consistency of this is one of, like a paste or pomade, if you follow. It’s an opaque honey coloured lip balm that smells of, well, honey as the name suggests. It has a matte consistency and glides on the lips smooth. It does not feel greasy or slippery — it actually has quite a “grip” to it which makes it so ideal for wearing under any lipstick, especially matte lipsticks, because it creates sort of a primed finish underneath. I’ve been experimenting with a lot of lipsticks over the last five months (yes, reviews to come on those!) and I only wish I had discovered the Rêve de Miel sooner, as I’ve found that wearing this underneath any texture of lipstick or lipgloss just makes it “stick” better and provides such a nice base — it gets rid of any dryness and fills in deep lip lines that you don’t want your lipstick or gloss to sink into.

Since using this lip balm, I have to say that over the last month of using the Rêve de Miel, I have had 99% consistency in moisturized and hydrated lips. I put this on every morning and every evening before I go to bed. In the evening, after washing my face, I give my lips a good scrub with a sugar-based lip exfoliator, rinse off, and pack a fingertip full of the Rêve de Miel. When I wake up, I swear to you, this lip balm is still on my lips and my lips are as soft and hydrated as a baby’s butt. I feel like even after I’ve taken a shower and dried my face, I don’t necessarily need to apply any type of lip balm on my lips, simply because of the crazy moisturizing effect the Rêve de Miel had on my lips the night before. But I still do… because this stuff is addicting and just a pleasure to sweep across my mouth. Also, after a month of using this, I’ve barely skimmed the top layer — a little goes a long way, trust me. One application will usually keep my lips hydrated for a good 4-5 hours – touching up only after talking too much or eating. At this rate, this pretty glass jar of honey goodness will probably last me at least another 6 months, at the very least.

I am still loyal to my Blistexes and Chapsticks. However, if you want something a little more luxurious, a little more posh, a little more pricey and a little more “Well, hello. Look at me as I put this fancy-schmancy balm on my lips right now.”, I most certainly recommend you invest in the Rêve de Miel!

I give the Nuxe Rêve de Miel:  a STANDING OVATION!

I hope you enjoyed my DEBUT beauty post! And I hope you stay tuned for more beauty product reviews in the near future!

Of anything I review here, please let me know if YOU’VE tried the product and what you thought of it — I am always interested to know what others think!  AND, if there’s anything you’ve been curious about trying, let me know as well! — I may have already tried it and I’d be more than happy to review it for you OR maybe I can be your guinea pig and I’ll try it out for you and share my impressions.

Thanks for tuning in, my fellow Pretties!!

🙂  Tess
